OT: Work woes

Okay so with the financial crunch and upcoming inauguration I can understand why my company is pushing us to cut extra spending and reduce overtime. But it's getting a bit ridiculous! I work for a multi-billion dollar company. Who's made enough profit in the past 10 days of this new year to pay my years wages 4 times over at very least. My boss keeps sending out these emails pushing us to do more...be more productive, get our reports cleared, get contracts created...do more more more. but don't get ANY overtime! I feel like I'm being set up for failure here. I turned in my weekly time sheet today and had 1 hour of overtime....literally 1 hour. and my boss sent it back to me saying that I didn't have prior approval for that 1 hour! that one hour of overtime would have cost the company a full $18.70 and I'm not allowed it because I didn't ask first. I'm so steamed right now that I can't even see straight to type this. I pour my heart and soul into this company, I'm a 3rd generation employee who is very dedicated and loyal to the business and specifically to this company and this is the thanks I get? I guess it could be worse, I could have been let go. But at this rate I'm afraid that's next. Please pray for me you guys. Pray that God would grant me the patients to deal with this place until this crunch is over and pray that if God has another plan in place for me that I'll be able to trust Him enough to get me through it without having a nervous break down. Thanks OH family.

Hi.
My daughter (who's a single mother of 2) just got laid off from Hawker Beechcraft in Wichita, so things could be worse. I know it's hard. Businesses everywhere are feeling the crunch, and your employer may be getting pressured from others higher up. I don't know. All you can do is follow the "rules," whatever they may be. Try to find joy in the moment. I know that's easier said than done. Above all, try not to worry about what may happen in the future. They say that 90% of what we worry about never happens, anyway. God does have a plan, so why worry? He's got everything under control. Think joyous thoughts and do your best at work. Smile, and know that you're right where you need to be.
Blessings,
Mary

My DH has gone through the same thing with overtime. It really stinks. He has to watch his time very closely. I will be praying for you to get through this time. Big hugs,
eMily

I've been on both sides of the fence.  It's frustrating to work as hard as you can and then not get paid, but as a manager, I've had employees who sit on their duffs, play on the internet and do everything BUT work to drag in a little OT.  Those are the people the rules are made for, but if you don't enforce them across the board, then you are playing "favorites"........aaaaagh.
