Hi,
I'm Susan (Sudsie) from Miami, Oklahoma. I'm divorced, stay at home mom, and have a home based business, and have an 18 (almost 19) yr old daughter. I have been overweight all my life, and it stems from sexual, physical, mental abuse growing up. I now know that none of the abuse was my fault. But this post isn't about all that it is about my journey to wls. I joined TOPS in 1995 at my heavest, 506.75 I have continued in TOPS all these years gaining and losing the same 100 lbs.
I started on this journey a little over 3 yrs ago, when I changed PCP's and he really wanted me to have surgery and so I checked into it and did all the testing and was even on my week of liquids, 4 days before surgery everything was cancelled due to Medicare's new ruling. that in order for them to pay for this surgery, it had to be done at a center of excellence. That took about 6 to 8 months. Well, when surgery got cancelled, I got depressed again and of course gained weight. So when they called and said that they were ready to get things going again, I went in and had gained weight above my lowest weight at the surgeons office. They called me and said that I needed to get below that weight before he would do surgery on me. Well that has taken me these past 3 yrs to do it. But during that time, I was a member of a local on-line support group and chatted with them and learned more and more about this surgery.
Then July 7, 2008 at my TOPS meeting, when I weighed in and saw that I was only 5 lbs from my highest weight. I told myself that I'm tired of this, if I don't do something I'm going to kill myself with this weight. I changed my way of eating, and really started working on my weight. I didn't tell anyone about this descion. I just went to work and started losing. I finally told my bariatic buddies support group about my weight loss and that I was working toward having surgery. of course they are very supportive and encouraging.
Yesterday I told my pcp that I was ready and had already started again on getting everything ready. Since that July day I have lost 60 lbs on my own and that puts me 4 lbs away from where the surgeon said I had to get back down to before he would do surgery on me. I have already been to the educational meeting and my pcp has ordered all the testing that we know of right now so we can get it all done. He will be faxing all my medical records to the surgeon also.
This morning I recieved a call from the nurse, saying I have an appointment in the morning with the girls at the Cardio's office and then will see the Dr there on the 15. They also have several other appointments set up for me and I will find them out tomorrow.

Congratulations on your smart decision to have weight loss surgery. I think you will be amazed! And welcome to the Oklahoma forum. These are great and supportive people! You should be so proud of yourself for losing 60 pounds on your own. That is a fabulous accomplishment! Pat yourself on the back for me. Hang in there and those other 4 pounds will be gone in the blink of an eye.
Keep us posted on your progress and we will be here for you whenever you need us! So happy to have you here!

Thanks GlitterGal, I'm really working to get those pounds off. working on getting in my protien and really watching what I'm eating. I did join OH 3 yrs ago but never did anything with it after posting that everything was cancelled. and don't remember what user name or password I used so decided to just start all over. Of course I didn't join the OK board. didn't know about it then.
Hi Susan, and welcome. I am extremely happy for your progress, and getting "to work". It amazes me how we can be so hopeless for so long, then so dedicated and focused the next minute. I know you have been through a lot of struggles, as we all have. I am excited about your surgery appts. It is a wonderful ride. Hope to hear from you often, Michael
Hello Susan, welcome to the OK forum. There are a lot of wonderful people and great information here on this forum. It has definitely been a blessing for me.
