Many insurance policies do pay, but many don't and won't! Also, to even get an insurance policy would be hard if you are in need of Weight Loss surgery. Individual policies can put many restrictions on you not to mention your pocket book. The costs of these policies can be un-real. You could possibly finance the surgery through care credit and it would be cheaper than paying up to 1200 monthly on an individual policy. If you have insurance through your husband's work, then I would keep it and look into financing the surgery. I do not know what procedure you are considering, but the price ranges are very resonable at Weight Wise. There are many on this board who are self pay and have financed or gotten home equity loans. I do wish you the best of luck and hope this dream comes true for you!

I believe that there are more insurance companies that won't pay and totally exclude weight loss matters than do.  I was like Sherry, I had to self-pay but I will also add to that a second verse....IT IS SO TOTALLY WORTH IT ALL.....We all finance cars etc that last a few years but this will change your life forever!!!!  I agree with Sherry...to find an insurance policy outside of a group if you are in need of weight loss surgery would be almost impossible and if you do find one it would be cost prohitive.  DO NOT let your coverage go with your husband's plan!!  Good luck with you.....

Debbie

P.S.  I've missed you Sherry!  I hope to see you Thursday at the support group!!

My insurance also specifically excludes weight loss surgery so I was self-pay.  It amazes me that insurance companies will pay for all of the health issues we have because of obesity but won't pay for surgery to help us become a normal weight.  But that's another issue!

It was worth every single penny and I have zero regrets!

Is there any way to appeal your hubby's insurance decision?

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield..of Texas, and they have paid for my surgery.  I had to do six months of supervised weight loss program, a sleep study, psych. testing..everything that was required for Weight Wise except the six months wait.  I jumped through their hoops and they paid.

Good luck!

34 lbs. lost before surgery on December 22, 2008.   105 lbs. lost prior to signing up for WLS.

I have a private insurance that pays for WLS but when I purchased it I had ten employees so having that as part of the policy was easy. PLUS YOU PAY MAJOR BIG BUCKS FOR IT!
I suggest going to a independent insurer like American Insurance Company. My policy was purchased in North Carolina so I know policies differ.
You can also apply for a surgical loan but that only covers the surgery itself and not any office appointments or followups
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Hi! I was wondering if you could give me the contact number for American Insurance Company? I googled it but had no luck. I have a small business and our current policy does not cover. Thanks!

I work for MetLife and we have UHC and our company ins does cover WLS if you meet certain requirements as far as BMI and have medical issues like diabetes, sleep apnea and others.

Good luck.
