Hi Dot,

Yes, Dot, my DH is Filipino and wants to go back after living here since the '70's.  We will survive on his SS and pension quite nicely since our dollar goes much futher there than here.  AND, I know alot of people move to Mexico for retirement, but at least in the Philippines English is the primary language, so there shouldn't be a language barrier.  Yes, it is much farther, but I plan on coming back twice a year to see my family.  We had originally planned on moving to Cebu, but have settled on Laguna.  We will look like the odd couple....usually it is common to see an older white American guy with a very very young Filipina (they will marry the older men because they will take care of them and their families), rather with my husband me he is a much older Filipino man with the fairly young white woman.  Haha....we will get stares!!

Kim, I am still doing the freezing thing.  I wore socks to bed in July!!!  It was however, great to not sweat to death all summer long.  I bought a heated mattress pad (dual control) and it is AWESOME.  I thought about buying an electric blanket also but so far the mattress pad is doing it for me.  I can't stand to get into the bed with cold sheets and always liked that before.  I ALWAYS have a couple of afgans next to my chair in the living room and can wear heavy sweaters and socks with a space heater under my desk at work.  I ALWAYS wear a coat or jacket and I was one that never wore one before...kept one in the car in case it broke down.  It's been quite an adjustment for me too!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

You are right...I'm gonna love not burning up in the summer!  I thought about that too.  Maybe I can go camping again and not be a baby because I'm too hot!  LOL!

I'm thinking it has something to do with our metabloism like Marie said.  I was thinking I was getting sick or something but If everyone does it I must be kind of normal! LOL!

Oh, add me to the freezing list!  I've only lost 45 lbs., 25 since surgery.  I'm shocked at the difference in my internal thermostat.  My husband has always complained because I insist on sleeping with the ceiling fan going year-round.  Now, I think I'm going to break that habit because I can't pile on enough blankets.

As I type this, I'm laughing at myself because I look like a little old lady with a shawl wrapped around me.

I'm almost a year out and I still am cold.  At this moment, I'm wearing two pairs of pants, a tshirt, blouse jacket and am sitting at my desk with my space heater going.  I now keep hand and foot warmers in my purse and break them out when I just can't stand it anymore.  You can get them at Wal-Mart in the hunting section.  About 1.75 for 4.  I will take this over my 140 pound blanket any day !

I know what you mean.  I went and bought me a full length pajamas - long sleeves long pants and electric lap blanket because I'm cold all the time..

Also - got several of those $4.00 lap throws at Wally wold and keep those at my desks for my legs and/or shoulders at my desk at work(s)...

Good luck and don't you know that OG&E is just loving the WLS community !!  lol
  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

Kim,

I have found a couple of things that help - a little:

Space Heaters and Under Armour!

I am freezing my tush off in this weather...  brrrrr....

Dr. Walton told me that some "smaller" people are just aways cold - I guess I'll adjust.  It's certainly worth it to put up with the cold instead of the hypertension, etc. etc. that we had before.

Best of luck keeping warm!  Spring is on the way....
