When did you start eating after RNY?
I'm just courious about when you all started eating anything besides liquids and what you ate? My booklet says I can eat soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese by now but I'm scared too. I don't want to be sick. I have no energy because I'm not getting in my calories. There is NO way I can eating only liquids. I feel fine other then being tired. I'm getting my water and protien. I eat s/f carnation instant breakfast w/extra scoup of protien, jello, borth w/protien and water and isopure.
I just want to know how everyone else ate at almost 3 weeks out. Maybe I'm doing just fine.

Kim,
Each surgeon and/or program is different. Over the years, I have seen some on liquids for a month after surgery, some went thru the soft stages, and then there were a few like me, who were instructed to do one week of liquids, then on day 8, begin lean meats and leafy greens. It all depends on what your surgeon believes is best for you. Don't be afraid of eating as you are instructed. Go slow, CHEW, and be aware of how your body is feeling after each and every bite. Sure, you will come across things that your new plumbing doesn't like (for me, I couldn't tolerate beef of any sort until I was almost 3 years out, and my mother, who is over 6 yrs out still cannot do any sort of chicken breast), but just remember that just bc your body doesn't like it once, does not mean that you will never eat that food again. It all takes time and adjusments...you'll get there.
You are doing FAB-U-LOUS!!! Try to stick to plan, and before you know it, you'll be so far out, that you won't hardly remember the trials and tribulations of the first few months after surgery!

In my 3rd week I started with the scrambled eggs, very moist, not dry. I added some cottage cheese to it in the scamble next and it was delicious. Helps to keep it moist also.
I happen to like catsup on my eggs, so I would use it also on plain scrambled eggs.
After that, I moved to tuna mixed with miracle whip (you could use light mayo if you prefer). Then I tried crab cakes. Moved on up to hamburger meat in chili after that or any other sauces.
I tried chicken at about 2 mos out, but that did not work well since it was hard to chew it up enough. I know only eat small amts of it, and mostly after I have ground it up before cooking. I can only now eat my favorite, which is hot wings and only 3 at a time if lucky. I don't eat steak anymore, but did not eat that much of it before.
I love my string cheese, and it is a favorite quick grab and go kinda meal.

we went through a few different stages some I dont really see mentioned on here but I used a different doctor too. My diet went 2 weeks total liquids, 2 weeks pureed foods(Keeping everything moist) whi*****ludes cottage cheese, soft scrambled egg, refried beans and such, at the end of week 4 I was allowed to move to mushies for weeks 5-7 on week 8 I was allowed to add most foods as long as it is done carefully and slowly to see what can and can't be tolerated.
My first meal after liquids was refried beans with cheese and hot sauce YUMMY! And I never liked beans before surgery. I am finding that they are pretty dang good and easy on the tummy.
Like KatsnYarn my first meat was chicken and I barfed on it . That was at about a month out. The very first time I ate an egg (at 2 weeks out) I ate the first bite too fast and my mom had to pull over real fast for me to barf that up. EAT SLOW and CHEW CHEW CHEW. I know we preach that like the gosphel but it is so so true. personally I would try 1/2 a cup of cottage cheese or 1 egg scrambled or over easy them mashed up (thats the way I love them). I even added a little bit of mild Pace Picate to my eggs and cottage cheese (dont knock it folks it is awesome!!). Try one food at a time. get used to it for a day or two then try something else. Our new tummies are strange machines and its like learning to ride a bike for the firsrt time. Before long you will be saying "Look mom and dad NO HANDS!!!"
