I am two days out post-op RNY! Surgery date Dec. 30th. Ready to start the new year with a resolution I can really keep this time. I have a tool to help me lose the weight I so desperately need to lose. I am having a problem with the gas! I haven't been able to get the gas out and I sure feel it! I have had a few of the Gas-X strips to try to help me pass it. Any suggestions?  I am on 15ml Loritab (every 6  hours) and it isn't doing the trick as well as the Dilaudid IV pain med did. I have found that if I go every four hours I am okay, anything longer I hurt. I want to thank everyone for the prayers and support! I am so excited and looking forward to a new me!

Walking will help.  The gas has to absorb into your intestines (right now it's floating around in your body cavity) and then it will pass.  Takes several days, but when it happens, let's just say a fart never felt so good!

Jim, it is nice to hear from you. Glad you are doing well other than the gas. It will pass. ...eventually. Good luck.

I used loritab every 4 hours and a nice hot heating pad on my chest area to help with the gas.  I had it and it was very uncomfortable..  Try to walk, as I know it's very painful but it did help pass it.  I believe by day 3 I was passing lots of gas..

Hope you have a speedy recovery..

Welcome to the "Looser's Bench"!  I found that for me walking and gas-x helped me more than anything.  Be careful about drinking because when you use a straw you tend to swallow air...thus more gas.  I could not tolerate Loritab (liquid) at all because it made me nauseated.  I reverted to the liquid tylenol.  I noticed on the loritab bottle (do not take on an empty stomach......).   My stomach was empty for 2 weeks after surgery except for clear liquids.  I thought a little pain was better than the nauseated feeling I was having.  I think the gas is very typical for most of us.  It WILL pass but walking does help.

Congrats on joining our Looser's Bench!  You do have an awesome tool...no more "diets" for us.  Just use your tool and the rest will happen!!!  Happy New Year to you and your new found health and life!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

Well I am happy to say that I have started to pass some gas! My wife is actually glad that I am this time!  haha.  My wife who was nervous about me having the surgery has been so supportive and has tackled the task of taking care of me. She has been making sure that I am doing everything as I am supposed to be and I love her even more for it!

Jim you need to walk..and walk some more. I have had nine surgeries in one year and never had gas problems cause i walked the floors of the hospital so much the nurses wanted to put a beeper on me to find me.
I have used phazyme after I eat cabbage it tears me up big time...
Congrats on being on the loser bench
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Hey Little Bro!
I'm glad to hear things are going well!
I tried to call to check on you last night but I didn't bother you today!
Call when you feel like it!  I'm doing much better!  Just tired!  Never hungry though!  Ask me again if I would do this again!  Yeppers!  (today anyway!) LOL!  You are such a better patient then I am!  I'm a BABY!
Hugs
Kim
