Willie, Waylon, George, Johnny, Merle and Charlie are here........

Right now I am only sure about who Willie and Waylon are.

They are 6 parakeets out of 150 that were abandoned on the side of the road before Thanksgiving.  Not all of them made it.  One of the  most shocking things to me was how many broken feet/legs there were-apparently the person who had them wasn't very careful about shutting the doors or feeding trays.

They are all young adults, Waylon is just a baby baby.  Willie is so named because he escaped when I was moving them from the carrying cage to their permanent cage and I got a pretty good work out catching him. He's fine and I didn't bleed much.

I am amazed at how resiliant and strong these tiny little birds are-I did take care moving them not to stress them out, but they are now happy and content in their new digs and not acting all flighty and scared at all.

I am so glad they are here and safe-good food, clean water, warmth, some fun branches and toys, and I'm sending a prayer out for the others who still need homes that they will find their way to good ones.

I'll put pictures up some time this week (they are kind of hard to photograph cause they are so little).

(Two blue/grey, two teal/white and two green/yellow.  Waylon and Willie are the greys).

You are such a sweetheart to take in abandoned babies.  The animal kingdom is lucky to have you as a steward over innocent beasties!
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Well, these guys are my sole "intake" for the year.  Everyone else is on their own.....(unless someone needs me to bottle feed a baby goat-I'd make an exception for a little goat, but NO MORE).

Oh Debra!!  how could anyone abandon 150 parakeets on the side of the road and leave them injured.  That is SOOOO cruel!  I do not know how people can be that way.  Someone needs to treat them the same way!

You are such a wonderful person for taking them in.  My sister raised parakeets at one time, they are so sweet!

Hugs,
Marsha

The poor babies they are so lucky to have you. if I was in my own home already instead of an apartment I would offer to take some but I am already over my limit with Ayla's new baby guineas.

Don't see how people can do that.  BUT, I don't think I believe you about no more rescues.  I would bet with your love and heart for animals, you would give in.  They are lucky to have you.  One of the goats we had when we lived on my wife's old homeplace, was named Blaze, and she was the best goat.  She was just like a pet.  My daughter was around 2 at the time and she could go out and hang on her neck and she would just stand there.  She would also get in between my daughter and the geese if they were getting agitated.  She was one of the best animals (pets) we ever had.

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Debra ~
You touch me deeply with your animal compassion. I hereby rename you our resident St. Francis or perhaps St. Frances Matron Saint of Animal Kindness. Bless the Beasts and the Children...for in this world they have no voice...they have no choice...but they do have YOU!
