Question
Happy New Year everyone! I can't believe it's already 2009!
My question this morning....is it normal to be itching? I thought it was dry skin but I'm itching all over, legs, arms, face. Maybe it's the anesthesia working it's way out? I don't know. I should have taken some Benedryl last night, but didn't. Now I hate to take it during the day because it makes me so sleepy. Even my head itches.
Thanks for your help!

Marsha:
This seems to be common after surgery - I thought dry skin too but nothing helped! I increased my liquid intake and it works itself out - I did the OTC Benadryl too but it didn't help much. I have seen a lot of talk about this over the years but never anything to back it up medically as to why it happens.
If you have to put your gloves or mittens on - do it!! You don't want to scratch yourself to pain or frustration!! Drink Drink Drink and it should subside shortly.
If you get a rash associated you definitely need to contact your PCP in case it is something disassociated with your surgery though.
Hang in there!!
