Happy New Years Eve Oklahoma!

Hope you are all having a wonderful day and will have a healthy and safe New Year!  Each of you has been such a comfort and blessing to me this year that I wanted to find a way to give something back.  It is my hope that this post will bless each one *****ads it.  From the bottom of my heart - Thank you all for just being the precious souls you are!

For many of us, this past year has had its challenges and for the most part we have all managed to meet them and in some cases even beat em!   I wanted to share with you today a story of inspiration that is very personal and close to my heart.  In 2003, my second son, Eddie, was engaged to be married to a lovely young woman.  Unfortunately, she died of cancer at the tender age of 20.  My son was understandably devastated.  He was less than a year away from completing his college degree in psychology , however,  he was so depressed he did not even want to return to college.

His Dad and I had many long, and sometimes tearful conversations with him, about life as well as a host of other issues, but a particularly important one was the need to go forward with our lives even when we just don't believe we can.  Life is a gift and must never be wasted.

Long story short, he returned to college.  Not only did he return to school, but Eddie realized from his fiance's tragic death that life can sometimes be brief and filled with the unexpected.  In light of that epiphany, he decided that he would pursue a career in what he truly loved, which is music.  So, he changed his major to music education and on Monday, January 5th, 2009,  he will begin his student teaching working with kids at the high school level for several months.  Next May, he will graduate with not only his music degree but a psychology one as well.  (Yep, our precious son completed that one too.)

This sweet young lady will always be a part of all of our family, but Eddie has managed to take that sad experience, channel his energy ,learn from it, and turn it into something positive.  As you can probably guess we are very proud of him as we are all our children.  We are so blessed to have such loving kids!

The link below is to a video of him posted on You Tube teaching a class at Michigan State University.  (He was asked to fill in for an ill prof.)   Not only did he get on with his life, but as you will see he still has a joyful zest for living and a very contagious sense of humor.  I hope you will enjoy watching him interact with the class as much as our family did.

Huggs
Pam

John Travolta's got nothin' on Eddie! I loved it! What I want to know is--who taught him how to do the Swim and the Charleston? :)
Eddie will make a fine teacher. Kids will love him. I hope he gets paired with a great cooperative teacher, who won't be jealous of Eddie's joy, youth, humor, and creativity, and I pray he never loses his love for life.
You know me, Pam. I believe absolutely that God wastes nothing. Eddie will meet his soulmate, and I predict it will be soon. :)
Thank you for sharing this sweet story and video. What a cutie!
Blessings,
Mary

Hi Mary,

As to who taught him the Swim and Charleston? -  I'll never tell!    And as for meeting his soul mate - for several months, he has been dating a lovely young lady who lives in Chicago.  In fact, he is spending New Years with her as we speak.  He'll be home Friday night for a visit so I'll do a little checking with him and see how things are goin!  :)

BTW - he has already met the teacher he will be working with and they hit it off right away so I don't anticipate any problems there.  The high school he will student teach at is in a small rural area and he said the few times he has visited it the kids seem very friendly and eager to learn.  He is very excited and looking forward to get going bright and early on Monday morning.

Hi, Pam.
I thought of you as the one who taught him the Swim, but you're way too young for the Charleston! :)
Keep me posted, about the young lady. :)
I'm so glad he's student teaching at a small school. He will have a great experience, no doubt. I did that, too, and it was wonderful. I wanted to stay forever, but I needed to actually earn some money. Maybe student teachers get paid some now, but I doubt it. Here I was, a wife, mother, student, and student teacher. It wasn't easy, but I loved it.
I'm so happy that Eddie has met his cooperating teacher and that they've hit it off. I'm sure he will do well and have many great experiences.
Thanks you for writing back to me. It means a lot. I know that 2009 is going to be a great year for your family.
Blessings,
Mary

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.  I watched the You Tube video and he is going to be an OUTSTANDING teacher.  They are so needed in today's schools.  He displays such a love for the students and life just in this short video.  I know that some school will be lucky to get him on their staff next year.  My husband has taught school for 37 years and still loves the kids.  There are a few teachers out there who just need to be gone.  You HAVE to love kids and love life before you can teach!!  You have done a fine job with you son and I know that he will find that perfect soul mate in God's perfect time!!!  Happy New Year to you too!!!

Hey Debbie,

Thanks for you kind words.  I think Eddie just might be a natural born teacher.  He has always been patient, kind, and he loves people of all ages.  I expect that he will probably make a life time career of teaching.  And thank you for the compliment on our fine son.  For all he has been thru, he could have turned out so much differently.  We are blessed!

Hi Amy,

We are proud of him -  and we give thanks each day to God for the many blessings we have experienced thru our three boys.  Music is precious to Eddie,  and he believes it is a vital element in helping children in not only their academic endeavors but their personal and social lives as well.  I along with you hope your son gets a teacher who cares about the whole person as well.  Thanks for you kind words.
