Hello my friends on the OK board. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa brought you everything you wished for.

Here is my question. I am t-minus 11 days to surgery, (if I can loose my weight, I GAINED last appt...) but I need to know exactly what to take to the hospital. Do I take my vitamins? Can I wear my own pj's once I am out of surgery? ETC, ETC..Those kinds of answers are the answers I need from those who are on the bench...

Thanks for any help that you can offer...

I took my own pajamas and they asked me if I wanted them on as soon as I was back in my room.  I said yes, since I was going to be walking.  I took way too much with me, but went prepared for two days and only stayed one.  I took my prescriptions meds and that was all.

Hey girl, glad to hear that you have a date!! I took any medicine I was taking (prescription or over the counter) in a ziploc bag, so they would know what I was taking. I took a comfy pair of pajamas and as soon as I got back into my room from recovery, I wanted my panties and pjs on!! Walking the halls in my nice pjs was great. Also, I took my house shoes and that is what I walked in. You don't have to take house shoes, just shoes that can easily be slipped on. And GAS-X strips, I couldn't have survived the 1st week without them. Other than pjs, all you will need is a comfy outfit to go home in, well, actually I was just informed I wore my pjs home. LOL......comfy is the key word! If you have any other questions PM me, I'll help you in any way I can. This is the best thing you'll do for yourself. I'll be 4 weeks out Monday, and I have no regrets and am so thankful I did this. Your going to do great!! Congrats!!

For me it was a robe, outfit for coming home (loose and comfy), Carmex, hair brush and cell phone ( I wouldn't have remembered anyones info otherwise) I wore my flip flops instead of house shoes (as long as they slip on for ease in and out of bed). My meds and my sleep apnea machine.  I took a new gown and a book and a couple of other things vyt they never came out of the bag.

Ok, time to jog the old memory LoL...  I took magazines, my cell & charger, wetlips (chapstick), typical hygeine stuff, pj pants, baggy tshirt, slippers, robe, outfit to come home in, and meds.  I was in the hospital 3 nights/4 days + 1 night in the hospitality house across from the hospital where the doctor could come over and check on me before I went home.  I had an open RNY so I am sure your stay will be nothing like that.  I am also quite sure I brought too much stuff, but I always go prepared.  Hope you get your surgery in 11 days (does that mean the 7th?... that's my birthday!)!

Good Morning everyone,

Nothing like a good hail storm to keep you up! So what better to do than reply to posts!

Thanks for all the great information. I will be taking my own pjs and my new house shoes and a robe. I really do appreciate all the wonderful input and encouragement.

To answer your question, yes my surgery is on the 7th and my birthday is Jan. 14... So happy birthday to both of us. I like 7s, so hopefully that will be a lucky day for us!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date. You wont really need to take a whole lot with you. I brought my own pillow and blanket because it made me more comfortable. Bring your laptop in case you want to get online. We have wi-fi here.We also have free movies on demand. You will need your own comfy pj's. Usually we ask that you start your multi vitamin the day you go home. You can put your pj's on as soon as you feel up to it. Best of luck to you and I wish you a speedy recovery, Rita

Well I have a question concerning P.J.'s. I wear long sleeve Tshirts for tops to my p.j's, and wondered if it is necessary to have short sleeve or can you have long sleeves? I wondered if after the surgery, do they need to be able to access your arms?

Hi, Sherry.
The long sleeves would probably feel cumbersome, as they'll need to get your blood pressure quite often. I don't remember a need to access the arm, otherwise.
Blessings,
Mary
