Caution!
Just to let everyone know I made it back home to Louisiana yesterday after a few bumps in the road, but all is well! I started mushies Friday and never knew food tasted so good!!
Through the months I have read quite a few posts about post operative diarrhea. Many posts have indicated that this is a fairly normal occurence "liquid in, liquid out" sort of thing. However, I got in dehydration trouble as a result of the "liquid out". Sorry if this is TMI, but I think everyone should be warned. From the date of surgery, I have daily exceeded the recommended amount of liquid drinking. I never dreamed that I would get dehydrated since I was drinking extra fluid. Wrong! Had to spend the better part of a day with IV fluids to get it right. The main symptom was simply weakness which I had attributed to recent surgery. Diarrhea is fairly common after the surgery but it can sure get you in trouble if not controlled. So, please note, especially new post ops: if you are having diarrhea, please let your doc know about it. Increasing your oral fluids will help you catch up, but it may not be enough.
Thanks to everyone for all your prayers, notes, thoughts and concerns through this ordeal. I have so appreciated your support. I hope you all have a blessed Christmas with your friends and family.
Sorry the diarrhea fairy is still visiting. I understand completely! In fact, he's at my house today but I'm used to it by now!
I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!
