Not wanting to eat or drink

Okay I am 3 weeks out on Monday.  I have no desire to eat or drink even though I am.  Every time I put something in my mouth I get this upset stomach for the first few minutes.  Is this normal?  I had a visit to ER on Tues.  I had some hemorrhaging inside my abdomen it is getting better.  I really can't wait to get out to Edmond I will be getting to town on Jan. 20th.  It seems like you all have so much support I don't feel like that here because I live so far from my surgeon.  I am down 28lbs.  So I guess things are going good.  When and where are the meetings?  Thanks for all your input can't wait to meet you all.  I feel like I am out there on my own.

You are not alone! I had the same issue and I promise your appetite WILL come back.  i didn't believe the others that it will slowly return.  I had terrible nausea while in the hospital but that went away, then head hunger issues, but I wasn't really hungry, so i wrote to others *****assured me to just wait it out.  And within a few more weeks, my appetite came back just fine.

You can't starve during this period though...  force yourself to eat.  If you're like me, I couldn't stand eating mushed up beans and cheese anymore...or another egg and I wanted to yak...I was never a fan of cottage cheese....so I came up with other things that made the tummy feel so much better.

iIve still got my list of soft foods if you want it.  just PM me if you feel the need!

I am 6 weeks out and thanks to a nastyn tummy bug I am working my way back up to the soft bfood stage again. And I still have to force myself to eat most of the time and asfter 4-5mbites my tomacj starts rolling but subsides fairly quickly.

It does subside in about 5 to 10 mins but that is the longest few mins.  I know I just have to give it time but it uncomfortable.  I am blessed though I could have more problems.  So I will just let this ride out.

I had surgery on the same day. This will pass, I had it the 1st 2 weeks, and now, I can drink a whole bottle water in gulps!! The biggest thing that motivates me to drink, is if I don't get all my water in, I may have kidney stones in the years to come, or more even so, kidney dyalisis. NO WAY!! Keep drinking!!

I am in OKlahoma City near downtown. Another thing I have found that helps me (not sure why except maybe because it relaxes the muscles) but if I am really having a bad spell of the stomachache after eating is getting in a HOT shower or bath. I always feel better afterwards even when I was so sick with the stomach bug. I am getting my water in ok but the food is still tricky for me yet. But we have to give it time to as basically as my nut told me we are starting our tummies all over again just like a baby learning to eat. And what tastes good or goes down today may not tomorrow and will again later on. But please don't force yourself we were told that if we can't finish something like our protien drinks to put it up and try again in a little while. Better to take awhile and it stay than do to much and get sick. You are doing great and we are always here to listen.

Hi Steph~  I am 4 1/2 years post-op from my RNY now, but I remember feeling exactly how you feel about the eating and drinking thing.  The good news is, it should get much better in the near future.  Sorry to hear about your hemorrhaging, but I'm glad that is better now, as well.  Good luck on your move to Edmond.  I'm about 2 hrs away from there, but used to live right near Edmond in North OKC prior to getting married last spring.  *hugs*

You're quite welcome~  Trust me that it does get better.  I've gone through plenty of ups and downs with the surgery.  I've even had 2 babies since my WLS!  By the way, call me Renae...  most everyone else does hehe.  Take care and talk to you soon!
