Don't forget to drink

I know I am having troubles with getting my water in on these cooler days-and lots of trouble on the colder days like tomorrow.  But, it's still important-because staying properly hydrated improves weight loss and your energy levels.  Our diets are typically higher in protein than they were before WLS (at least mine is, as pre surgery I ate practically NO protein) and the water is needed to keep our kidneys flushed out and working properly.

I try to get in lots of decaf herbal hot teas, and decaf ice tea.  I like blends with cinnamon and clove flavors, and celestial seasoning has a gingerbread flavor out right now that's tasty.  I've had an icky cold/upset stomach thing for several days now (complete with fever blister omigo**** hurts) and I can tell a big difference in how feel vs. how much I've been drinking.....the more liquid, the less awful I feel.

So, drink up!

I had never thought as much abou****er as I do now....I often forget that liquids can be lots of stuff! I have switched to drinking my protein warm on the cold days and am trying to train myself to sip instead of gulping...
Thanks for reminding me about the hot teas too. I am just not into coffee unless I have alot to do and drink it for energy, but I love tea!

I remember last year during the black out we all had. I found myself lethargic and wierd acting....I didn't have the strength to do much of anything....I finally realized I had not been drinking anything. The cold was draining me(10 days alone with no elec is draining in it's self). Anyway, I never put the feelings I was having together until my sister mentioned that she wasn't drinking much and was so tired....We decided that that was what was wrong with us and it was amazing the difference once we fixed the problem!

So Deb is right.....Drink up...drink, water, tea, broth, anything...ok no booze, but drink!

Hi, Debra.
Thanks for the reminder about getting in the fluids daily. I'm pretty diligent about it, because I've read how easily post-WLS people can get kidney stones from not doing so, and I'm all about avoidance of pain! :)
I'm sorry you have a fever blister. I know that's painful. Have you tried Campho-Phenique? It's a little bottle full of "stinger," but it will have that fever blister dried up and gone in 3 days. At least, that has been my experience. It's over-the-counter, and you might call ahead to see if your store has it, so as not to waste a trip.
Feel better soon, my friend.
Blessings,
Mary

I bought some abreva and am trying to stay out of the wind-I'll just have to put on those big girl panties........it's funny, this is the first year I really wouldn't mind being in a christmas picture, except now I won't want my face to show......

Hi Debra!

I have taken your advice and bought some celestial decaf tea, peppermint and apple cider, I'm just wondering if I can use any sweetner to make it a little more enjoyable. Splenda maybe?

Thanks, Amber

For me, I use a dab of brown sugar or a little bit of honey (I know, very non compliant)....but I can take splenda in coffee but not hot tea.  We know I'm weird.

One thing I've learned is that most of the big mugs we use now take two bags, not one-those tea bags are sized for little itty bitty tea cups-brew time varies but you should be good in 4-6 minutes.  For a REALLY big mug, I will use three bags.

Amber, of course you can add Splenda.  I have been using it since I was still in the hospital!  I can't make it without my afternoon decaf!
