Weight Loss Sugery and the Military

My sister works at the military dept and though she would love to have this surgery...She said it would disqualify her for service. (She is not deployable). Does anyone know if that is true or not?

I can see some of the reasons that it could disqualify her for serving anymore, but she is going to have problems with her weight requirements anyway....She said some guy tried to get it allowed a few years ago and they told him nope....
I just wondered if anyone knows anything else on it.

I checked into this before I had surgery b/c i wanted to join right now there is no wavier for having wls. It does disqualify any person for services, they say it is b/c when you are in the field or deployed our bodies have a special diet that the mre's (meals ready to eat) are not going to be able to satisfy. But a friend of mine from college works for the Health board in Washington and they are working on a waiver b/c right now the numbers are so low but it will be a ways away. hope this helps.

Could you please let me know if you ever find out anything about this? She can never be deployed do to a bad knee anyway...but I know there are always rules...I am hoping she can have it soon.
Thanks for your information!
