I will be 5 weeks out on Monday and have noticed that I have been drinking really well without hardly any problems. On the food part, I am eating a little over 1/2 cup of food at a meal.....my question is..will this stretch my pouch?? I am able to eat this no problem.an that alone scares me when I hear of others having a time getting a 1/4 in. Makes me wonder did the doc give me a bigger pouch or what...lol I am still trying to figure out this 1/2 cup thing especially with food that is not able to be measured that way....how do u tell. Like meat..chicken.....I am still tryin to figure out what is a 1/2 cook chicken breast....hmmmm. I dont want to fail at this, and I have to admit, that this pouch thing has been on my mind the past couple of days. Any insight on this would be appreciated. As always u guys are the best!

LaDetra, you are doing awesome and you are NOT going to fail at this.  You would have a really hard time failing at this especially this early on.  The habits we have to get in are more for training for when we are out futher.  I do not measure or weight any of my food.  I am usually guessing when I say I eat a 1/2 cup or so.  I have never been able to eat an entire chicken breast and still can't.  I might be able to eat 1/2 to 1/3 of one.  My pouch WILL tell me when I've had enough and believe me I DO listen to it because I haven't before and I will dump...not fun.  I get a feeling like a fist in my chest and usually do one hiccup and I KNOW it's all I'd better eat.

You should be drinking well at this point.  I had trouble drinking only the first 2 or 3 weeks.  Your pouch should be healed by now and the drinking should be better.  I can almost gulp my water down again.  I usually will have 3 bottles of water in before noon.  Just listen to your pouch and don't worry about measuring.  You KNOW you aren't over eating.  It just physically isn't possible for you to overeat at this point.  The main thing is that you are getting the protein down first and then other things.  Just concentrate on not eating with your meals and waiting the hour after you eat to begin drinking.  You are going to be fine.  You ARE GOING TO BE A SUCCESS STORY...you just wait and see!!!

Hi, LaDetra.
Everyone is different, as to how much one can eat. Some days I can eat more than other days, and it can vary from meal to meal in the same day. I'm learning to listen to my tiny tummy, and as long as I eat with no distractions and focus on the small bites and eating slowly, I figure it's all good. :)
What I would recommend is that, for meat, you look at serving size. For chicken, that's probably 3 oz., and you can use a food scale to weigh your meat. Note how much it weighs, then eat the amount that gives you that satisfied feeling. Whatever is left, weigh it again, and note the difference (if you're keeping track).
Try not to worry that you're eating too much, or compare your eating to someone else's. I know it's hard not to, but we are different, each of us. I know that you trust in the Lord. Trust Him to help you enjoy your food with thanksgiving and discipline, and then leave the results up to Him. You're doing fine, my friend. :)
Blessings,
Mary

Hey Mary..my buddy! Thank  you for your words. yes, you are right, I need to stop the comparison. The whole stretched out pouch thing got me kinda scared....but I know the Lord will not bring me out this far and leave me. It was just that I am having 2 scrambled eggs at breakfast at times, but know of others who can only have one...so that got me to wondering..hmmm...am I normal..am I eating too much...am I greedy?? lol lol.....then other thoughts crept in. Thanks for getting me back on track...U are a doll!

You also have to remember that each surgeon and each surgery is different.  Each pouch is not exactly the same size.

I can feel if I eat a bite too much.  It feels like it sets in my esophagus.

Not good.
