Dreaming of food

Does anyone else dream during the night of food?  I'm having a terrible time with the cravings.  Every moment of the waking day I am constantly craving what I cannot have.  Then I go to sleep at night and dream about it.  It's driving me nuts!

I've been real good.  We just had Christmas lunch at work and I had nothing.  No dessert, no lasagna, no pop.  I was a good boy but my patience and willpower are waning.  Is this normal to go through?

I CAN SO RELATE TO WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH.  I AM 3 WEEKS OUT TODAY AND NOW THAT I CAN HAVE A FEW THINGS IT HAS GOTTEN MUCH EASIER.  THOSE FIRST 2 WEEKS WERE A KILLER FOR ME.  WE HAD WEDDINGS, BIRTHDAY PARTIES, AND JUST BEING OUT IN OKC WAS HARD ON ME.  I NOW KNOW I CAN DO ANYTHING AFTER SITTING THROUGH ALL THOSE GET TOGETHERS WITHOUT EATING.
I WAS DREAMING ABOUT MEXICAN FOOD THERE FOR ABOUT 3 NIGHTS STRAIGHT.  I EVEN PUT MY NOSE IN AN EMPTY PRINGLES CAN JUST TO TRY TO SATISFY MY CRAVINGS...
HANG TOUGH, IT DOES GET BETTER.  NOW THAT I CAN EAT, I NOTICE I CAN ONLY HAVE 3 OR 4 BITES AND I AM HAVING RESTRICTION.  MY HEAD KEEPS TELLING ME I WANT MORE BUT I KNOW I CAN NOT....  THIS HAS BEEN A LITTLE BIT EMOTIONALLY HARD.  I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD, BUT I CAN HONESTLY SAY IT IS THE TOUGHEST THING I HAVE DONE.
HOWEVER, I HAVE LOST 20LBS. SO I AM GRATEFUL!!!!

GOOD LUCK

I feel your pain.  I have had dreams of sweets for some time now.  Just keep your mind on that goal.  Try and incorporate some more protein where you can to help subside the hunger pains.  The control bars are good to help subside hunger.  I found a new product today at www.extendbar.com that is the exact same thing just under a different product label.  The packaging is even the same.  Every time you think of food just take a drink of water.  I am up to 3 liters a day and it has helped also.  I'll say a prayer for you.

Sweetie, its an addiction just like alcholol is. The best thing I can say is find something to do...when I decided to have RNY I had the same problem. My way os solving my addiction was focusing on something not related to food. I would either design a quilt or started making one. LOL I made over 42 quilts in four months...keep a journal of your emotions and what you have eat. And what helps alot is call someone that knows what you are going through....
One of the things I aso did was purged my kitchen of all foods that were considerd bad...that helped me alot...
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Yup, completley normal.  I think a lot of this weight loss stuff is all mental.  Even though I'm 6 months out, I still want to eat when I know I'm not hungry.  And that's what got me in to trouble to begin with!

All I can say is hang in there and be as tough as possible.  This is a hard time of year too and it sounds like you did great at work.  It will be easier after surgery but I can assure you that issues like this will still pop up even after surgery.

You did a smart thing by posting here.  We will try to help all we can.  Just think, if you eat something "bad", it will be gone in 5 minutes and will only leave behind a memory and feelings of guilt.  It just isn't worth it!

Yes, although not as much.  My nightmare for a long time was that I'd be in a buffet line and suddenly have no restriction-eat all I wanted and gain back all my weight (in one meal....LOL).  That doesn't even make sense, but it has to do with fear of being obese again, and not believing this is "real" and lasting.

If I am aware it's a dream (sometimes I can accomplish lucid dreaming) I will turn it around, realizing it's a dream and pig out with no consequence.  Usually though, I am not aware it's a dream and I wake up feeling afraid, miserable and out of control, and hopeless.  That's when you do whatever it is you do to banish self doubt, because that's all it is.

Yeah I still have moments of dreaming about the chinese buffet. Sigh I was so looking forward to my soft foods where I could do a few bites of brocolii beef but the tummy bug has me back at step one liquids to try and get it lined back up since it came so soon after my surgery.

No, but I dreamed I was iced in with 250 students in the library needing help on their research papers, and we couldn't go home because the hill at Memorial was too slick!
You know I'm busy when I'm dreaming of research papers!

I still battle head hunger, too. I don't really crave anything specifically. I caved and took a teeny bite of something the other day, and it just didn't taste good so I spit it out.  I figure the mental side will always be a part of the journey.

It's interesting. You have done such a great job though. Yes, I had dreams about food. Not anymore though. I also had something weird happen to me while on liquids. I actually thought I could smell  cherry jello being made in my kitchen one day. I completely purged my kitchen of all naughty food. And I hadn't cooked anything in weeks. I am the only person that cooks in that kitchen. For whatever reason, my senses were heightened and I just KNEW someone was making jello that day. Weird. But then again ...many people on this forum will tell you I am weird.
Oh well,...~Lisa~

I have a method that cold help if you want to try it.  A number of other people have done it and worked great for both myself and them....  Anyway, it's just an idea.
