Weight Wise self pay question about pre-op?
Sheila, do you mean that the preop visit is included in the price of the surgery and did someone say the Post op visits are included in the price? For how long?
I noticed that last night Jessica said there were like 2 week visits, 1 month and like 4 or 5 others...are each of these a fee or are they included?
Can anyone tell me if the first Appointment with the Dr. was included or were you billed for that differently?
One more question. Is the $30 for the entire blood workup and that is all?
I hate having to penny pinch but it is very important for me right now to make sure I have every bit for each thing....i'm having to skip Christmas this year in order to make sure all these extra things are paid for. They may not seem like a whole lot to some with insurance, but for me, each little thing that costs me right now is a sacrafice from somewhere else.....It will be worth it all though, I am sure!

One more....did all of you that were self pay, also have to pay a monthly fee to the nurse, nut and exercise gal? I have wondered about that too...Sorry for so many money questions.

All Dr. W fees were included. The first consult visit with Dr. W was included in my package price. The follow-up visits after surgery are included such as the 2 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 month and 12 month. I am charged for the dietician ($17.50 for this morning). They reduce their charges for the dietician when you are a self-pay. This is how is was handled for me anyway.
I wondered if the initial visit was included....I thought that was what was told to me, however they continue to bill me for 80 bucks for that first visit.....I am charged 17.50 for the dietician and 30 for the Nurse each time I go....and on a monthly basis...it adds up! Oh well, It won't be long. I am not paying that 80 dollars though. I was told it was included, but no one will ever give you accurate info there....
I think I am a crank today and should get off here for a few days.....
Take care Deb.

I ended up having to call the billing department and speaking to the office manager. She deleted that $80 charge. Why should you be paying $30 for the nurse when the dietician charge is only $17.50. I'd verify tht amount too.
No, you're not a crank. You just express your thoughts and opinions and that is why this is called a message board. What works for one will not work for another. I was surprised at the comments about rice, bread and pasta. I've been looking at those items like they are poison. I know that I can NEVER get started on them because I'll loose control....that's part of why I'm here in the first place. It's like an alcoholic drinking "just a little"...next thing you'r back full blown alcoholic. I HAVE to make this work for me...I think in my case it's a matter of life and death, literally!!!
Have a wonderful day Sherry!!! It's not going to be long before you join us on that "looser's bench"

I am calling Cheryl by Monday and doing like Pattye said...I am going to tell them I have paid Dr. Walton his fee, now I want a date! Even if they change it later...I want a Christmas Gift of a date!
Thanks for the info!

Okay, I am home this evening just a little shy of midnight.. Had to stop along the turnpike to pick up a little man from his daddy..LOL.. Sure I looked good walking back on the should carrying a kid and a car seat. DH didn't think he would make it back home tonight so our paths crossed just right..
Sherry, I asked pre-op about paying my $30.00 and she said she runs it through insurance first so she did not bill me today. I did however, pay my 12,500.00 There was no charge for speaking to Dr B, cheryl or pre-op. HOwever, I would guess if you don't have insurance they would require the $30.00 for blood work. I know I have never paid a DR fee, but I do pay, Nut, Exercise, and Nurse Practioner. I actually have been keeping a list of all the fees I have paid and what for, so if you want my example, just PM me..
Hope that helps and I answered everything, if not e-mail me.. I may have forgotten to reply to something since it's so late..
Talk to you later,
Sheila

i've never posted before, michael and i just joined the forum. michael is having surgery, i am not at this point. we are also self pay, since michael has not been working he has no insurance. and since we are not married, i can't add him to my insurance either. so we are completly and totally self pay. we are extremely fortunate that his mother was willing...and able!...to pay for the surgery in advance, but the other costs are kind of a mystery to us, and pretty scary. the cardiac clearence alone we were told would run $1500. he has not been to see dr keller and the exercise physiologist, but i know we will have to pay those out of pocket at time of service. luckily he does not need a sleep study, as he has already had one of those before (and has sleep apnea, which the surgery will probably not fix...he has a severely deviated septum, so he will be on c-pap for life...oh joy!) since he has 108 pounds to loose, we are just waiting a little while, there's no reason to get in any hurry, we're hoping to get the cardiac clearence done when we get our income tax returns.
it's so much money, and for michael this is the first in a series of surgeries. some paitents don't NEED to have the skin removed...michael will. he has a very large tummy, and also, he will need extensive work on his legs and tush. so we're looking at multiple plastic surgeries. and for most people that would maybe not be covered by insurance, but because of the issues of getting sores and infections, he can probably get most of it paid for. (because he will be working by the time he gets to that point) but it's still mind boggling to wrap your head around the cost of it all. i'm really concerned about the costs pre op because of the financial situation we are in right now.
it's worth every penny...i would pay three times the amount just so he feels better, feels better about himself, and isn't in pain every moment of every day...but in this economy, and in our budget, every dollar has to be stretched
