Setting a surgery date?

How soon after you meet your pre-op weight goal can you have the surgery.  I am currently over 20 lbs down and my goal was only 17.5.  I don't go back to the doctor till Jan. 8.  I know I will be far past my goal by then but was wondering how soon after that date can you schedule your surgery?

Jeremy, You may be able to make your next office visit, your pre-op visit. If you have done all the required tests, gone to the classes and support group....and anything else that should have been on the list of things on this path. You may be able to get right in after this appointment, depending on their schedule. You have done great! Congratulations!
You might give your advocate a call and ask her when you can get a date or if your next appointment could become your preop.... What a wonderful way to start the new year huh?!

Jeremy, you should be good to go if all of your other testing and classes have been taken care of.  You might even call and see if you can move your Jan 8 date up some.  Way to go on that weight loss!!!

call your patient advocate and ask a zillion questions. I did. My date was moved up twice. Be sure you are set with other obligations...work , family etc., BEFORE you set that date. Way to go with your weight loss!! They will threaten you about maintaining your loss... and they mean it! Doc will cancel your surgery if you gain even 1 pound. Keep us posted!

Dr B is my doctor too... He is doing my surgery 12/24 and the other date I was given was 1/7/09.  Dr B is going on vacation the last week of December.  However, I agree I would turn your next appt into your pre-op appt and call Cheryl and let her know.  If all your requirements are met and once you meet goal they will schedule your surgery.

Well I was blunt and went into his office said hey doc I got your 40 pounds lost you wanted now when can I have my date...He laughed and said schedule her asap.....
My orginial surgery date was for 19 later....bad thing was I had h-plori so it was rescheduled...

As the others said, call your advocate! I called when I was 1/2 lb from my pre-op weight loss goal and asked to make my next appointment into a pre-op appointment and she scheduled my date right then on the phone! My surgery was 10 days after that appointment.

Congratulations, you're in!  Call and make that appintment a pre-op appointment!  But don't gain any weight or they'll get ya!
