Wow, I'm tired

I was woken up this morning at midnight with the most searing stomach and back pain I have ever felt...mind you I have had multiple kidney stones and gas pockets galore.

I tried to take care of it at home by take simethicone, the gas relief stuff they give you when you are discharged after surgery...because I thought it might be a really bad gas pocket. Then I took some phenigren, because it is not only an anti-nausea, but also a muscle relaxer to some extent...

After an hour of this, being on the phone with my mom, who is an RN, and not being able to move, but not being able to sit still, I finally called the hospital to figure out what I should do.

The RN on duty called Dr. B, who was on call for Dr. W, and he said that I really needed to come into the hospital just in case there was something really wrong.

This wouldn't have been a problem if I hadn't just driven home to Ada from Edmond a few hours earlier, and I was supposed to have class at 8am.

The pain was so bad that I made the decision to drive the 1.5 hour drive back to Edmond because I knew something wasn't right, and I didn't trust my local hospital to take care of me like Drs. B and W.

So at 3:30 this morning, I get to the hospital, my mom met me there. I got admitted and they finally gave me some pain meds a little after 4 so I could get some sleep.

Dr. W came in before 7 to do his rounds, looked me over, and said it looked and felt like I was having a gallbladder attack...I've never had one of those before...however, he said that it was fairly common with WLS post ops 6-7 months out.  So he set me up for a CAT scan, which was inconclusive btw, and that didn't happen til around 11.

After the CAT scan, Dr. W sets me up for an ultrasound for tomorrow morning, since Mercy is completely full today.

So needless to say, my class was only 5 days long, and I'm going to miss at least two of them, so I had to drop it, and sometime soon I have to run back down to Ada and get my laptop and extra clothes.

Whew, I'm beat, I think I'm gonna go take a hot bath...or shower...or nap...all three sound absolutely amazing right now...

Buh bye

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well.  That's a bummer to have to drop you class as well but your health is more important.  At least it's semester break and you can get this taken care of soon before the next semester starts!!!  Take care of yourself Missy!!!

A gallbladder attack was more painful than labor as far as i was concerned.  Good luck figuring this all out!  Get well soon!

Sorry to hear about your trouble.  I am glad that they are at least diagnosing and treating what I would suspect to be the most likely cause.   When my wife started having this type of pain with no relief, it was six months before we convinced anyone that it was her gall bladder.  In the mean time, she had been incorrectly diagnosed (and tested for) heart problems, panic attacks, ulcers, and seizures.

Good luck - take care of yourself, and if that sucker keeps acting up, get it out of there.
I was alarmed by the 6-7 months out timing - now I feel like I might be starting to have a pain --assuming it's all in my head for now... (at least there's something in there for change.)

Michelle, I am so sorry you are going through this. Gall bladder attacks are so painful. I had my gall bladder out several years ago. Good luck with the ultra sound.

Sounds like the dreaded gall bladder to me.  The good news is, it's an easy fix if you catch it in time-much easier than the WLS surgery (or it was for me).

Michelle-

I am so sorry to hear about your pain! My mom had an attack once and she thought she was about to die... Our thoughts are with you!

Get some rest and from one school going girl to another, there is ALWAYS another time to take that class!

Hang in there
