I bet you could go out without a coat and burn a zillion calories just trying to stay alive-that is until you keeled over dead.

I totally agree.  I've never been one to wear a coat much.  I was always warm.  Since WLS it's been totally different.  I even wore socks to bed back in July.  If my feet are cold I'm cold all over.  I finally invested in a heated mattress pad last week.  It's AWESOME.  I once loved to get in the bed between the cold sheets....no more.  That was making me totally miserable trying to get warm before going to sleep.  I also have a space heater under my desk that stays on.  I have to have warm feet and hands or I can't work!!!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

I just looked outside-my border collie is taking a nap in the grass.  He must be burning calories.  (He has a door he can come and go as he pleases into a heated room, but the cold doesn't seem to bother him.)  I wish I could handle cold like that!

I know what you guys mean!  I wore long johns under my clothes today.  The halls at school aren't heated.  I knew I would freeze without my layers- even in the building.  I love my electric blanket.  I turn that puppy on about 30 mintues before bed and it is toasty!
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Cold Cold Cold-Yes Yes Yes
I taught school all morning until 1pm with NO HEAT!!! Luckily, I bought an Underarmor shirt yesterday. It fits tight like second skin. Over that I wore a turtleneck shirt and a heavy cable sweater and sometimes my coat even indoors. I was able to work but my students were miserable...I don't blame them. The powers that be are "working" on getting the heat fixed. Keep your fingers crossed...otherwise it's gonna be a l-o-n-g week. BRRRRRR!

My classroom is always cold too.  I keep my space heater close to my desk in my office, and between classes I run in and heat up.  We have heat, it's just not warm enough for me.  I stay cold all the time.  I wore my thermals under my clothes today too.  Along with  a nice fleece sweatshirt!  I had an icy windshield when I started to leave school.  It sprinkled this afternoon and froze on the windshields.  We're having sleet tonight.  YUCK!  Could be an interesting drive to school in the morning.

Hugs,
Marsha

Okay, I've always said, "I could wear a sweater in Alaska," but that has all changed since WLS! I am SO COLD! Why? Seriously! What about WLS makes this happen? I mean, I've only lost 21 lbs. since surgery (one month tomorrow). Surely that's not enough to do this. At this rate, our heating bill is going to be enormous!

Mary I think the immediate "chill" has to do with reduced calories too-I was always cold anytime I lost a lot of weight WHILE I was losing.  Also, all those hormones being released by the fat makes your internal thermostat just go crazy.  LAST winter I tried to be all energy conscious and was so miserable the entire winter that this winter I'm just blasting the furnace as well as wearing layers all the time.

I've found if I keep a tank top or camisole on under a t-shirt or sweater, and then a hoody-then a heavy coat, I'm good.  I've also been running around in a pair of cotton sleep pants under a pair of sweat pants-layering works on the bottom too.

That makes sense, about the weight loss, the hormones going crazy. I've been layering some, which helps a bit. I guess I need to do more, because my husband says if I keep turning up the heat, we're going to need to take out a loan to pay for the bill!
Thanks for your help, Debra.
Blessings,
Mary
