I just got my surgery on Dec.1st by Dr. B.  I am just wondering if I am the only person out there, that is stuggling with the first 2 two weeks of liquids.  I didn't anticipate food still looking and smelling good, I know it is "head hunger"  I can honestly say I have had a few bites of soft foods early, but I feel really guilty about it, but I am having such a problem with just liquids.  Does anyone have any advice for me???  I'm not supposed to start soft foods until Monday....and I feel it will never come!  This is SO much harder then I thought it was going to be!

I can say you are definately NOT alone in hating liquids, and when you get to stage 2 pureeds for me you will hate that to then you FINALLY  get to soft but real food and you get to chew again and things you never thought you would like taste like heaven.

One thing I found heavenly when on liquids was my mom made a huge pot of stew and I stole ALOT of the juice off it, all those good flavors blended together for great flavor but still good for you! And I swear by the walmart brand sugar free popcicles they helped me so much when I wanted to chew something and they count towards your water intake as well!

Oh, I could have written your post!  My surgery was a week before yours.  Those 2 weeks of liquids were really hard for me.  My surgery was 3 days before Thanksgiving.  I had to go to my sister's house and sip water while seeing & smelling all those delicious foods.  But.....you WILL survive this stage!!!  (hopefully without going crazy)  If I may offer you a little hope - next week when you are "legally" able to have solids - you will be delighted.  I know I am.    It has greatly decreased my head hunger now that I can eat something without feeling guilty.  It may not be the same foods that I loved before, but it is still "real food" and I'm okay as long as I can have something.

(((Hugs))) to you and good luck surviving until you get your official blessing to reintroduce solids.  Also, trust me -  you aren't the only one that has snuck a few bites of soft foods before Day 14.  I'm not saying it's right.....just saying you aren't alone.

It doesnt matter how soft the food is, its BAD to eat before the dr recommends it! You have to give the new tummy time to heal and if its doesnt heal properly and you eat something it can damage your pouch!

Hang in there and STAY AWAY from food! Even the soft food, it doesnt take much to put a little tear in our little tummies and then you wont know it til its too late! Will keep you in my prayers that you have the strength to walk away and not eat anything.

I really think it's very important to follow the instructions given to you for post op.  The surgeons and all at WeightWise KNOW what they are doing and do the liquids for a reason.  If you have real hunger and get weak then you can have a protein drink.  I used the protein drink a couple of times when I thought I might not make it....guess what...I did make it and so have many many others before you.  You'll be fine.  I'm sure most of it is head hunger for you.  Try to stay busy and keep the TV off if the food commercials bother you.  I ate ice and popsicles so I could have the "chewing".  Monday will be here before you know it and I just know you don't want to damage your pouch.  Good luck!

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

Hang in there-it's important to do so, but yes, it's hard for everyone.  Surgery doesn't rewire our brains and a lifetime of habits is hard to break, but follow your doctor's instructions hard or easy-this is no tme for "can't".

The only thing that got my thru the liquid stage was SF icecicles and fudge pops.  They let you actually bite into something and chew on it.  Try it, it helps.

You are certainly not the only one to have difficulty with the full liquids. Back away from the soft foods until it is time.  Believe it or not there really is a reason behind that instruction sheet that your dietician gave you. I am not trying to come down on you, and I do offer you my encouragement, but  you have to remember that your insides are healing as well as your outsides.  You need to find something else to do with your hands, head and mouth to take the place of old habits. The majority of it is head hunger. Best of luck and hang in there. YOUR TWO WEEKS IS ALMOST UP. Rita

It "vacuums," girl. I know. You'll get through it. Monday will come. Don't do anything to hurt your tiny tummy. Hang in there. Clean out a closet or something.
Blessings,
Mary
