which surgery is best?
The best thing I can tell you is RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH! It was a hard choice for me too. I read blogs, asked people's opinions, and did all the research I could on each proceedure.
I have also heard that diabetics do well with the RNY. I think my choice of surgery would be the sleeve only because I wouldn't have to have my stuff re-routed. But my insurance will only pay for the band or RNY. I really NEED the tool of the RNY and watching my sweets. I am a COOKIE lover. I'm a cake lover, anything sweet are loaded with CARBS!!! Yummy!
You will get lots of good advice on here but do your research and make your final decision with your gut! LOL! No Pun intended! Just trust your instincts and discuss it with your surgeon.
Its a life change with any surgery and I'm still pre-op so I don't know first hand on anything only my choice and my decision to change! This time next year I want to wear some CRUEL GIRL Jeans and some boots! Its been a long time since I've done some line dancing! But back in the day I was a pretty good dancer! LOL!
Best of luck with your choice!

There was no doubt taht for me it was RNY from the get go! I dont regret it at all! And I would do it all over again. I was border line diabetic and i was on 11 pills a day and I am very proud to say that I dont take a one anylonger. From Blood pressure meds, to meds to help with me heart including keeping it in rhythm.
Just do ALOT of research to make sure you made the right choice for you but being diabetic I would definately go for the RNY!

Everyone has to come to this conclusion on their own after a lot of research and asking yourself questions. For me the RNY was the choice because I am a sweet/carb person. Most RNY'ers will dump on sugar/sweets and I wanted to NEVER go back to the sweet route. I was insulin dependant and took 140 units of insulin per day to try to keep my level down. I went from that and a 11-14 A1C. My LAST insult injection was the day of surgery on March 12th!!! My blood sugar is always right where it should be. My last 3 A1C's have been right at 5. My endocrinologist is amazed and my BS issues are resolved at this time. I would be a big advocate of the RNY if you are a diabetic however many sleevers who have diabetic issues do get better simply because you loose weight and are eating healthy. My understanding of the RNY is that it bypasses that part of the stomach that actually feeds the pancreas and causes the blood sugar issues??? Good luck in whatever decision you make.
I have to agree with the others - research, research, research. The answer as to which surgery is "best" depends on you and your eating and medical history/condition. This is truly a personal decision that requires the research and soul searching.
For me, the sleeve was a great choice. Before surgery, my biggest problem was quantity. When I started eating, I wasn't done until there was nothing left. I never felt full enough, so I kept right on eating until it was gone. Now - with the sleeve, that is just NOT an option. I couldn't be more thrilled with the choice I made.
I did not yet have diabetes at the time I had surgery, but feel sure with over 100 oz of soda daily (the real stuff - not diet) that it was just a matter of (very little) time before it developed. I shudder to think what I've done to my body in the past... Anyhow - I can't testify about that, but I can tell you how much better I feel, and how much less pain I have in my joints and how much more energy I have to do whatever I want!
Best of luck with your decision! Keep researching here at OH and other places, and feel free to ask any questions that come up alon the way. Congratulations on deciding to change your life with WLS.
