medical loans?

Now that I've been given the green light for surgery, I find out that the Pulmonologist is not covered under my insurance (at least according to the letter I got from their office but I see his name on my insurance web site)  I've got to have 650.00 for him to read the stupid tests by the 17th, so I've got two choices, take money from my 401K that I don't know how to do, or find a place that will give me a short term loan.  I know someone on the forum had used a medical loan for colic surgery on a horse and I can't remember the name of the company.  If someone could help me out with either the 401K or the loan I'd appreciate it.

I got a loan fairly easily at www.carecredit.com You need to make sure the pulmo takes it though.  I don't guess all doctors take it.  I know my dentist doesn't, but know of another periodontist and cosmetic dentist who do.

As for the 401k, I've never done it, but my husband did and he just went to the HR department at work and they told him everything to do.

Hope this helps

All you have to do is call the 401K company that yours is in. Depending on how long you have been putting in whether or not you can borrow or take from it. If you arent sure the company or the phone number the HR department at your work will have it for ya, Ours is Fidelity and you can actually do it online. Its easy, when you call them it doesnt take long and most can overnight the check for a small fee. I did it first of this year and paid 25.00 to get it the next day.

Good luck to ya

If your pulmonologist is listed on your insurance web site then there could just be miscommunication.  I had this problem with my endocrinologist when I made an appointment their business mgr said they weren't on my insurance plan.  I called my insurance plan folks and ended up on a 3 way conference call and everything go worked out.  Don't give up if they are listed until you talk personally to both sides...don't depend on a book because information changes constantly.  (why borrow money if you can work it out with a few phone calls)!!Good luck

Well he is on my inurance....kinda.  He is blue cross PPO but not HMO which I have.  I wound up borrowing from my 401K, figured 5% intrest was better than what I was going to get through a bank or most other places, however, we just found out AFTER I did that that layoffs are coming tomorrow and Wednesday.  Going to try not to let it stress me out, that's all I need is to find out I'm laid off right before I go to the cardiologist tomorrow!

Well, I'm glad you have it taken care of.  Insurance is a pain sometimes. ((I do it for a living...not life or health though).  Don't let it strett you out if you can help it.  It won't help a think.  At least get your WLS done (even if you have to buy some Cobra coverage).  At least you'd be on the road to a healthier you and can begin the job hunt for the dream job of your life!!!  You'll not only feel better but look better as well.  Good luck to you and we're making room on the looser's bench!!!
