Hey girlie,

On my liquid diet, I could have like chicken/beef broth, the broth from canned chicken noodle soup(no meat or noodles) sugar free popcicles, sugarfree jello, crystal lite and of course protein shakes. U are on your way...I am excited for you!!

Kim,
the broth from the noodles is loaded with sodium which I would be concerned about not only that but the msg.
I was lucky for the first 7 days of my pre op diet it was a heck alot different the last 3 days was liquids only.
This is something that I did for me and made my life easier before and after surgery.
I made home made veggie soup, with alot of broth. Then I would freeze it in freezer bags just the right size for after surgery. I also made a chicken soup with northern beans instead of noodles. That  way when I was in the pureed stage I cold puree my heart content and get my nutrition in. The other side to this was it made my roommate could eat without having to cook.
I strongly suggest popcicles...and s/f jello...
Sending you good vibes and best wishes...

Pattye,
Thanks!
I'm starving my boys!  I don't want to be in the kitchen.  I've done really well all day but right now I think I am so hungry I could eat a cardboard box!  But I haven't eaten near enough today.  I've got to eat something good for me.  I went and got some Caribbean cooler from Nectar.  Its ok but its not doing it for me right now!  LOL!

If I lived closer I would make you up some different soups and my famous chili.
I recommend low carb slim fast and some protein bars...on a liquid diet you have to be taking in nutrioment about every two hours or drinking something. I did the liquid thing for 4 days cause I cheated on day 6 with a hamburger and kid fries from mcdonalds..It was worth it..LOL....
Maybe we need to help the pre ops when they are doing liquids by making pot luck dishes and taking to them...Just an idea....

All I've had all day is broth, cottage cheese and nectar, oh, and some pudding.  I haven't even had 600 calories all day.  I'm not Starving but the Mc Donalds' the kids had for dinner really looked yummy! LOL!

I'm so limited on what I can have.  The dr. warned me that if my liver weren't smaller he wouldn't do my surgery.  In the ultrasound I had Thursday it was enlarged so I'm afraid to cheat!  I'm afraid to eat!

Today was easy I didn't have my daycare kids here and I've had NO stress!  This week will be a challenge but I'll make it!
I like the idea of pot luck! Yummy!

the problem with my diet today is that my sodium is off the charts!  That can't be healthy!  But I have to eat something.  I like the broths and the cottage cheese but they are packed with sodium!  Whats a girl to do???

Hi Kim!!
I did the same 10 day to success diet as you are doing and it actually worked out very well for me.  My husband did not ask me to cook and cooked for himself while I was on it.  I did have some anger issues when people would bring their fast food into the house and so everyone started eating out.  Here's what I would have in a day
Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added.  You can get in bulk at Sams, I liked the Vanilla (taste like ice cream)
snack Sugar free jello pudding
Lunch Cream of Tomato soup and SF jello
Snack CIBreakfast
Dinner 1/2 cup cottage cheese and a V8
Snack Blue Bell SF fudge Bar or SF popcicle
Bedtime
CIB
I also had broth anytime I needed a "fix"
I lost about a pound a day.
It's a great way to get you in the mode of being careful about what you eat.  I will say that post op I was desperately sick of all the liquids but feel completely ready when I have my firs fill to go back to them for a few days.
Good Luck!! The first couple of days are the hardest and then it gets easier.

Lisa,
Thanks for the great ideas.  I'm doing ok today.  I got some Nectar, Carribean Cooler.  I mixed it with some soy milk.  OMG**** is sooooo good.  I really like it.  I'm going to do 3 of those a day and I'll get some SF fudge bars too.  I love cottage cheese so thats easy.  And I like Tomato soup too.  Its a good thing I'm not a picky eater!
Thanks again for your help!  I'm glad you are doing well.
Kim

Where did you get the Caribbean Cooler nectar?  I usually shop at Wal-Mart.....which section would that be in?  Also, where are you getting your powdered protein?  I am think Akins probably has it?  I also saw in Wal-Mart in the diet food by the pharmacy, they have these protein "shots"....I think it was 42 gms protein in a 3 ounce tube of liquid.  I was thinking these would be great for post-op to mix with water to help get protein in.  I found them on the internet where you can buy 12 of them for $24.99.  Don't remember the price in Wal-Mart, but may be worth trying a couple before buying a case.  I am so excited for you, that you are only a few days away from your surgery!!  I am so excited for you!!  I don't even have my nutrition class until the day after your surgery!!  i will start my 10 day diet on the 21st.  By that time you will be able to fill me on EVERYTHING, I can't wait!!!
Hang in there!!!

Hi Marie!
I went to a new store here in Claremore for my Caribbean Cooler by Nectar.  I got mine at Extream Nutrition Plus.  I really like it.  I don't think you will find it at Wal-mart but you might.  It is a protein drink.  I have to get my vitamins.  I'll look online for them.
I was going to tell you...you asked me about what I'm taking to the hospital.  I'm taking a pillow also.  (for my tummy and my head)  I have a 2 hr drive home and a pillow across my tummy will help. and one to lay back on!
You'll get there!  I can't believe how quick the time is going by!
Hugs!
kim
