When will the weight loss start?...
It has only been 9 days since my surgery. I weighed the day I came home and naturally was up a few pounds from the extra fluid. I've dropped that off, but I still weigh the same as I did at Pre-Op. I know it's early, but I can't but feel disappointed when I read of other people dropping pounds right away.
One other thing.......WARNING this falls under the TMI category:

Is it normal that I haven't had a bowel movement? I'm only drinking liquids at this stage, so is it possible that I just don't have the need? I am getting plenty of fluids. I took Miralax today since that was on the list of approved medications, but I'm not sure if it was necessary. Maybe I just won't until I start the soft protein stage next week??? I'd appreciate anybody's guidance so I can mark this worry off my list.

I didn't weigh until I started eating food (mushies). When I did I was surprised that I had lost 20 lbs. in that first 2 weeks on liquids, but everybody is going to be different. I do know that when I started eating I got very constipated, so it is a good idea to take the miralax. I did take it but i probably didn't take enough. Being that constipated is no fun at all. Just remember that your body will lose the weight, probably not as fast as you want it to. I have been in a stall for the past 3 weeks but finally yesterday I had dropped another pound. Good Luck. Patience grasshopper....
The weight will come off...but first more healing....
Rome wasn't built in a day and yoru body is holding onto thins that it needs to heal....like water which weighs a ton....so hey... go shop on hgtv....or learn some lost art of crochet or something....and just know that you will be skinny before you know it...
In fact, make sure you wear your most favorite underwear while you still can because hunny... before long, you're gonna be griping that you have nothing to wear.... mark my words...
now...for the greatest of my advice.... go stare in the mirror making those sexy faces..... practice looking sexy, because before long, you'll be using those looks...
wink, wink..

An answer to the TMI category...don't worry until you are two weeks out and haven't had a BM....I know everytime icome out from under anesthesia, my body just holds on to everything for about 10 to 14 days...after that, if you are concerned, start on some Miralax and call your doc...
And don't worry, the weight will come off. Just hide your scale for a week or so, and don't weigh. Concentrate more on how your clothes are fitting differently, how much better you are able to move around, etc...things do get going eventually.

Teri, a big me too! Don't worry about TMI, we talk about poop, barf, and gas on here all the time. I didn't poop for a couple of weeks and had to take miralax even then. Also I didn't lose weight at first either. In fact, I didn't weigh for like a month because I didn't want it to freak me out. Finally, months later the poop thing is back to normal...kind of.
I feel for you. I know that the scales can be friends and enemies! I am 8 days out from surgery and I am down 23 pounds from discharge day. That does include the gained weight while in the hospital though, so I'm 14 pounds down from pre-op weigh-in. But yesterday I stayed the same as the day before and it drove me nuts! I just think everyone is different. You will probably lose a ton all at once instead of losing some steadily here at the beginning. Don't get discouraged, I know that's easier said than done.
I've been having really watery diarrhea pretty often... so I would much rather have your situation! It's not fun having to run to the bathroom! But, then again, maybe that's why I'm losing - you know, the extra running (literally and figuratively)!
Good Luck and hang in there!
