Update on my Mother

All,

Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers.    Mother came out of surgery about 7:30 this afternoon, and according to the Dr. and nurses, is doing quite well.  The surgery went about six hours, and apparently included cuts from her waist up both sides of her body to her underarms and then down the inside of her arms to below the elbow...  So - she is going to have some considerable pain and recovery time... but I know she'll be happy with the results in the long run.

I'd appreciate any thoughts and prayers you can spare towards a speedy and less painful recovery.  I'll be back there in the morning to help get her home from the hospital.

Thanks again - the support from this group is truly unbelievable and one the greatest things I've found on this journey since WLS.

Hi John,

I am happy to hear that your Mom is doing well.  It sounds like a very extension surgery.  I must have missed something as to what her surgury was for.  Would you mind letting me know and I will then be able be more specifice in my prayers for her.

Again, remember all the thoughts and prayers of the board are with you.  Isn't it a blessing to have these wonderful folks available to us just when we need them?

And a big hugg to you - you sound like a very fine son.

Huggs,
Pam

Pam,

Thanks for your thoughts & prayers.  Mother had RnY several years ago, and this was the second plastic surgery to remove excess skin and tissue from the many years of being obese.  I actually wasn't aware of how extensive this surgery would be - I was expecting just an arm reduction, but apparently she and the surgeon had other ideas.

It truly is a blessing to have all the folks here to share the joys and the struggles that come with this new life journey.

Hope all is well with you and with your husband's recovery.  Thanks again!

I'm glad you posted.  I wondered how she was doing earlier today!  I'm glad the surgery went smooth.  She'll be in some pain I'm sure, but like you said, she'll be pleased with the results.
She's lucky to have such a caring son!  Tell her I said so!  She'll agree! LOL!
Hugs and Prayers!
Kim

Hi, John.
I'm so happy to hear that your mother is doing so well. As for the pain, it's important to keep on top of it, to take the pain meds whether she feels she needs them or not, in my opinion.
I will continue to pray for her. If she has some quiet music, she can listen to that and do slow deep breathing, focused in the tummy area (not the shoulders). That is helpful, for pain issues.
Thank you for the update and do continue. It's so important that we be "the one leper *****turned to give thanks."
Blessings,
Mary

John,

Sounds like it's gonna be a painful recovery with all of the stuff she had done.  Needless to say, I'll add her to my prayer chain for a quick recovery....  Although...you could benefit outta this a bit...  it might be time to hit her up for a loan or bribe her into cooking your favorite meals that she doesn't cook for you anymore.....just wait for the pain meds to start kicking in...hehe...

I hope all of the recovery for her is infection free and easier for her to deal with by the day.   I'm sure she's gonna be soooooo happy with the results without all of that skin holding her back from the life she deserves to enjoy!

T.
