I'm sleeved!! Yeah, all of the anxiety and nervousness was really for nothing. Anyone who plans on having this surgery, don't get scared, you'll be wasting you time like I did.
On the other had I just go home about 2 hours ago. And I'm running a 99.8 fever and evertime I take a drink, it hurts between my breast. I keep taking little sips and it still doesn't feel good. Did anyone else have this problem?

I'll talk more about my experience later.

Amber, congrats !!!  DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL THE DOCTOR !!!  It's probably just the gas they injected to puff you up for surgery, but if you have any questions call !!  They are used to it, they don't mind.  Good luck on your journey.  Lynette

Glad you are home. are you drinking your water ice cold? At first i could only handle room temp water.  Might try changing the temp a bit and see if that helps. If not I would call and talk to someone!

Amber-

I am so glad you are home and the nervousness is finally over for you. I have not had the surgery, but I know my sister recently went through another type of surgery and had similar problems because of the gas they filled her with. Call the NP or one of the nurses and they will probably give you some different drugs :)

I am so excited you have gone through it... Best of luck to you. Feel better!

I didn't realize you would be home the same day!  Thats great.  I hope you feel better soon.  I thought you had to spend at least one night in the hospital.
Keep us posted on your condition!
Its nice that you can post especially an encouraging post about not being scared!
Get better!

Hi Amber!  I'm so glad you made it through and are home resting.  I remember having a difficult time sipping for a day or so.  Keep tracking your temp and let Dr. B. know if it goes any higher.

I had the exact same pain and Dr Walton told me it was esophageal spasms. I took very small sips more often to help. he told me they would go away within 24-48 hours or he could give me something to help (can't remember what it was though). It did go away without the extra med.

I still have that pain every once in a while.  It happens when I take a sip that I think is small, but my stomach doesn't.  Massaging that area and stretching my body out seems to make it pass more quickly.  It happens with jello and broth too.  The only thing that I haven't had that happen with is popsicles.  I love those popsicles!
Do you know what you temp ran in the hospital?  Mine is normal at about 97 degrees, maybe you run normally hotter.  I'd watch that pretty closely.
Make sure you get up and walk every hour or two, that will help the gas get out of you.
Tomorrow morning will be one week for me.  I'm back to work full-time and I haven't used any of the pain meds or the nausea gel they sent me home with.  Luckily I haven't needed any of it.  I do get pretty worn out after a while, so I definitely would not say I'm 100% back to normal.  And my left side has pains every so often.  I've gotten a couple of headaches also, which I'm sure has something to do with the changes taking place in my body.  So, those are some other things you may encounter.
Good news... I weighed when I left the hospital on Friday and I was at 245 (with sweats and shoes on).  I was 235 when I checked in (with the gown only).  Today - day 6 - I am at 226.  That's a big motivator!
Good luck and feel free to call me if needed.  I'm not sure if I'd be able to help you or not, but it's good to talk to someone that knows exactly what you're going through.

Amber the drinking pain is normal hun like said above try letting the water warm up just a tad and sip it at first.  After a few weeks to about a month you will be able to drink like normal again.  I can down a bottle of water now like I did before and not even think about it.  Hope all continues well with you.  If you need anything holler at me I am just a hop skip and jump away over here on Riverside.
