Pills after Surgery
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!! I'm so very thankful for obesityhelp.com and all of the wonderful friends I've made here.
I was looking on the paper I was given for after surgery meds I can take. And I noticed Prilosec (I take it now), so can you take this med in a pill form right after surgery? I just thought it was a bit weird, if I can take Prilosec in a pill form, but I can't take tylenol in a pill.
Speaking of which when I went to the drug store today, they didn't carry Tylenol Go Tabs (chewable). I'm sure hoping I can find these at Walmart.
Thanks a bunch in advance for the responses. And have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!!

Hi Amber, I'm not exactly sure about the Prilosec pill, but I just had my sleeve this morning and I had a weird reaction to the strong painkiller than give us (dumading or something funny) so the nurse gave me loratab before I went to bed. I was a liquid and she said that is what we would be going home on. It tastes like cough medicine and it sucks because you have to sip it instead of drinking it all at once like we usully want to with yucky stuff. It's also not as strong as the other stuff but it lasts longer.
I take Paxil, Zanax, and Levothyroix and Dr. B didn't say that I had to take them in liquid form. They are pretty small though, so maybe it depends on the size of the pill. I took them this morning before surgery too.
I'll ask him tomorrow for you about Tylenol... maybe it has something to do with how long it takes certain pills to break down. Who knows.
I hope your surgery goes well Monday.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi, Amber.
It's the size of the pill, but it's also recommended that chewables or liquid be used, to be safe, especially early on. I think that many are able to take pills, eventually. I could not find Tylenol in anything other than the liquid, around here. They just want you to be safe.
Blessings,
Mary

Dr. Broussard sent me home with a prescription for an antacid. It is a small pill. The nurses gave me one before I left the hospital and said that I shouldn't take any pill larger than it. Any other medication would have to be cut into smaller pieces, chewed, if in capsule form - I should pour out the insides onto a spoon and take that way. If it's a liquid-filled capsule, you poke a hole in it and squeeze out the liquid. About the Tylenol Go Tabs - I couldn't find them either, so I bought liquid. It all works out.
Happy Thanksgiving!
