H. pylori
So I got a call from the dr's office the other day and I was told that I have an H. pylori infection and need to get rid of it before surgery. Ok, so this is the bacteria that causes peptic ulcers and two thirds of the world's population have it. But does anyone know what happens if you get this after surgery???
By the way, can't believe the gas those meds are causing me!

Hi,
I had h pylori before surgery and had to take the meds and get re-tested. Big Pain especially all those meds. Make sure you eat lots of yogurt to keep yourself from getting thrush and a yeast infection. As you said a big portion of the population has the infection. I started having my own opinion about it. They say that a lot of people who have the infection have peptic ulcers. I say what if it's a protective infection that occurs as a result of having peptic ulcers. h-pylori actually reduces the amount of acid so after treatment you may find your reflux or heartburn worse. I don't know, it's just a hoop to jump through. Do some research on the internet. You'll find lots of information.

Hi.
I was told that the triple pack of antibiotics would get rid of it for good, although you will always test positive for it since you retain the antibodies. If, later on, your doctor wants to make sure you don't have it (sometimes they doubt we remember what we've had or how it was treated, and sometimes we forget), you can have a saliva test. Hope this helps.
Blessings,
Mary
