Why it happened

I think I know why I had to move everything back....... You see I had the $160 put up for the Nut appointment something just told me not to spend it and to reschedule with a medicare provider.......all this in the other post.
Well, last night our doxie, Kizer, drank a liter of water at one time. then  he had another seizure. Well, he has epilepsy and is on meds for it. So any way, he kind of smelled funky and was drinking so much I decided to take his blood sugar ( I am diabetic ). His BS was 408. So, I called the vet and he told me to bring him in this morning. So we went in and they ran some tests and our little dog has diabetes and is now on insulin. He aslo had to have his phenobarbital increasaed. When I got ready to leave it cost me $170 and I was told it may take a month to get his sugar regulated. So, I guess this is why I have had to wait. I need to be able to deal with my  daughter's dog and with her. she thinks she did something to cause it.... I have tried to talk to her,, but she is pretty upset about it. Prayers for all appreciated.

Hi, Emily, My prayers are with you and your family both human and animal. I understand fully what you're going through - I took Ed in Monday because I thought he had an abscess - he did but it took several hours for it to drain and he ended up staying the night at the vet's.  That was almost $200.

It's hard for anyone to understand how our pets/children get sick and we can't protect them from everything.  I hope your daughter realizes that.  Anyway, just hang in there.  donna

Thanks Donna. Madison is really sensitive. It seems that last week she fed Kizer some chocolate covered popcorn ( she knows better ). I guess she was feeling a little bit guilty about it and thought this was what caused his increased blood sugar. I tried to reassure her that that one incident didn't cause his diabetes, but you know kids. Anyway, he did really well getting his shot this evening and he is up a little more now than he was, but still a little lethargic. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

Best wishes for your entire family.  The diabetes may be the root cause of the seizures, so when you get it under control he may be able to lose the phenobarb.  (small silver lining).

The vet checked his sugar when he was firt diagnosed with epilepsy and it was running in the mids 60s. I know the seizures have gotten worse over the last week. Maybe we can reduce the dose of the phenobab once is sugar is under control. that would be great if we could get rid of it altogether. Thanks for you comments.

I am glad that you  caught the diabetes in your baby in time. I came home after staying at moms to recover and not climb my stairs and found one of our two guinea pigs dead(they were fine the night before when mom and my DD came and fed them. She was very old for a guinea pig (7 years old). She was my DDs the other is my DSs and she was horribly upset. Thank God for her loving church. They said a prayer for her Glora and one of the youth leaders even offered to buy her another. I told them thank you very much but as her sister is the same age I don't know how she would do with a new young one and the whole jockeying for place thing I would hate for her to go before she had to.

I will pray for you and for your babies!

Emily!
I'm sorry about your baby!  God knows our needs even before we do!  I sooooo believe that!  I'm sad your surgery has been put off, but it was for a good reason!  It makes it easier to actually see and know the reason!  Now your puppy will get better!
Hugs to you and your DD!

Thanks Kim. Yes it makes it easier knowing the reason. I am just glad we caught the diabetes. He is doing much better now that he is on insulin. Thanks  for your kind words and hugs.

I am sorry for your furbaby!  Good thing is that his diabetes should (hopefully) be manageable.  Glad you had the money for the vet stashed away too.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)
