Since I am new and will be embarking on my weightloss journey it would be great to know what you all keep in your pantry.  What do you usually have on your grocerie list?  What are some necessities of your bariatric kitchen?

Thanks,

Hi Jeremy!
I posted this a while back.  Check it out and see if it helps!

Its out of, OH weigh loss magazine I think!  I read it in the surgeon's office while I was waiting for an apt.  I was so happy that I didn't rip it out when I came home and found it on the computer!  LOL!  J/K!

For me-

Some kind of flavorless protein powder I can use to give soups a boost.  I like soy or eggwhite based.

Vast collection of sugar free syrups to flavor coffee and protein drinks and even milk.

Vast collection of hot teas/some decaf some not.

Cans of Tuna/salmon/Chicken-can't go wrong with those.

Miso soup

Some kind of nut

Some kind of cheese

Now, these are not what I eat every day, but I always keep them around to fall back on.  Note most are protein based things.  I can do just fine if there are not snacks, chips, etc in my house, but if I don't have plenty of easy protein, I'm sunk.

Jeremy,

Flax seed cereal (flax-z-snax) in the morning with fresh fruit , cream, and splenda. (big bowl...lotsa fiber

little steak or hamburger for lunch with a balsamic salad

Another bowl of flax seed goodness... for a snack

whatever I want for dinner that is quasi-low carb  (you can have complex carbs here if you workout)

then the end of my day, I have a "tasty-kake"  2 net carbs of delicious snack cake....

so easy...  this isn't like a diet but I eat lots of this same menu daily...  then I go make some gourmet stuff for my guests...(I might snack on those things too)...

I cook for my family a few times a week and modify it for me...taking out the rice, pasta, potatoes and bread.  Once a week...usually Friday night...I get some egg drop soup and wonton soup and mix them (sounds weird but I love it)  I have it for dinner Friday and breakfast Saturday.  I keep South Beach bars and snacks handy for on the go times so I have a better choice than what I would have made in the past.  Being prepared helps a lot!!  I was Christmas shopping last night and felt like I had to have something to drink.....I ran out of liquids while out...my favorite thing is to stop by Wendys, Sonic, Taco Bueno or Subway and get a Light Lemonade....at Sonic I have them add cherry.  Hits the spot!!!!!!!!!!!

I always keep string cheese, FF refried beans, chicken breasts, salsa, decaf coffee (afternoon habit that gets in a lot of liquids), almonds, peanuts, lean ground beef, taco seasoning, and chili seasoning.  Oh, and canned beans like kidney and black beans.  I also keep some protein bars around when I just don't care what I eat but need nutrition or if I am going to be out too long.

One of the best things I did pre-op was buy some small plates and small bowls.  I got what is probably supposed to be a smallish bread plate and a salsa bowl to eat from.  The smaller dishes keep our small portions from looking puny.  Initially, you will deal with HUGE head hunger.  Using the small dishes was a way to fool my head into thinking I was eating a lot.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

On the other side of the kitchen, make sure you have saucers, or small plates.  Will be more portion appropriate than a regular dinner plate.  Also get some baby spoons.  Will keep your bites small.  Good luck, Michael

Hey dude!  Just wanted to say Hi!

Can't really add too much here since HappyCat said it all.  (she my older, but much more well-informed sister!)  I always have Edy's no sugar fruit pops and sf popsicles too.  I eat them every evening like clockwork.  They hydrate too!

Later, Gator!  Kim
