New to the group
Thanks for the great advise. Unfortunately I can' t have the surgery till march due to I just started a new job and have to wait till the six month mark to take time off. Maybe I will drop more than the 18 I need and it will just be less I have to loose after surgery. Looks like I need to brush up on my Adkins info.
God Bless,

The more you can lose pre-surgery, the better condition you'll be in for surgery and the closer you'll be to your goal. Also, you'll have time to nail down those post-surgery habits, like no drinking with meals or 30 minutes before and l hour after eating; sipping rather than gulping; getting in 64 oz. liquids per day; eating small bites and chewing well; eating slowly and always protein first; stopping smoking and drinking, if you do either; stopping all soda, if you drink them; ridding yourself of any eating habits that do not benefit you; getting into a good exercise routine; taking vitamins and supplements, to build up your body, etc. Make a list of the changes you need to make and begin tackling them one by one.
Blessings,
Mary

Jeremy,
As most people are going to say to you on here, it will be the same thing over and over. Take their comments to heart, but remember that everyone is different.
With that said, we seem to be in the same general category BMI wise, so I think I can relate a little.
The most important thing I told myself to get over is that: "Food is for energy only". Once I got that through my head, it wasn't that hard to change. I know you can do it. I may be blunt, but with guys, who are in the same boat as me, it is sometimes what it takes. I am scheduled for surgery 2 weeks into December. I am NOT concerned over Thanksgiving because I understand and am committed to this change.
DON"T GIVE IN TO HABITS that have caused your situation. Fight them.
Redirect your thoughts to something else. Your body doesn't care what it is fed, your mind is what makes the decision...use it.
Don't put yourself in situations where you will be tempted beyond your capacity to stave off.
Nutritionist Diet: Easy.
For breakfast: Made do with raisin bran and 3 pieces of WHOLE WHEAT or DOUBLE FIBER toast (fiber helps encapsulate the sugar and flu**** out).
For lunch: I actually got by with 2 cans of those Chicken breast Salad kits for lunch, and sliced apples
For afternoon snack: Microwave popcorn. Very filling and satisfying and was a "treat" i could look forward to.
For dinner: 4-8 oz. chicken, fish, turkey (turkey is wonderful on grill), veggies, DIET coke.
All the time: water
3 times week minimum: Walk or treadmill. Gets metabolism going. Gotta do it dude.
My results: 32 pounds in 3 months. If I can do that, trust me, anyone can.

Jeremy, welcome to the forum and the best people around. You find they are very informative, supportive, and even pretty crazy. From what I've heard, go to one of the meet and greet dinners, and you will find out. You have picked the best place also to do your surgery. Also, there is the men's only forum -- come over there and meet them. A bunch of great guys, and like this forum, are very supportive. Congratulations on your decision -- you won't regret it. Michael
Hi Jeremy! Welcome to the board. Thanks for chosing this forum to share your journey. You are at the right place for freindly understanding people. We have several VSG'rs here! They are all very informative. From what I have heard about your dr. You are in the best hands there are!
Congrats on our decision. It took me about 10 years to get to this point! I thank God for bringing me here because I don't know that I would have gotten this far without these amazing people! Honestly!
Enough mushy stuff...I'm really close to surgery so I want everyone to know my feelings! Blah blah blah! sorry! ;)
Anyway, get to some support group meetings and meet and greets. It will only help you. It sounds like Mary gave you some excellent diet advice! See...Already they have taken you under their wing!
And by the way, I'm one of the crazy ones Michael was talking about! LOL! J/k!
Welcome!
Kim
