New to the group
I am new to OH. I just had my first consultation with Dr. Broussard on Tuesday. I have to lose 18 pounds before my expected VSG in March. I don't meet with the rest of the team till Dec. 4th. I have already learned a lot reading all your posts and I know this forum will be a big help for me.
God Bless
Jeremy,

I would greatly appreciate the info. Since I don't meet with the Dietician until Dec. 4th I was really wondering what to do. As many of you would understand dieting isn't very successful for me. I really want to drop the pounds I am just worried not having bounderies on Thanksgiving will not help. The 4th was the earlies they could get me in. What type of diet did they have you follow?
Hi, Jeremy.
The dietician will work with you on whatever you feel will work best. However, a high-protein, sugar-free, low-carb diet is the best, no matter what. I lost 43 lbs. just by cutting out pretty much all whites (flour, sugar, rice, potatoes, pasta) and focusing on protein. It puts your body in ketosis, and the weight comes off quickly. Also, you MUST get in 64 oz. water or other sugar-free liquids daily. You can have decaffeinated tea. Sugar-free popsicles count, but you need to watch it and not have too many sugar alcohols. If you have been used to eating a lot of carbs, the first few days will be rough, but keep reminding yourself that this is to help you get weight-loss surgery as quickly as possible.
Also, begin (if you haven't already) doing some form of exercise. Journal everything: your water, exercise, and food. That way, you will see what works best for you (scale wise) and what doesn't. I ate 3 small meals and 2 small snacks every day, and I did not eat past 7:00 p.m. (on the whole). If you don't like to cook, you can use the Medifast shakes and supplements, and I did that for several weeks. It just got old, for me. I do use the Zone and South Beach Living protein bars, as snacks, quite often. Well, I hope this helps. I'm sure others will chime in, about what worked for them. You can do this, and it will be fun to jump right in. Who knows? You could have those pounds off by your Dec. appointment and have surgery by the end of December! See how many pre-op requirements you can check off between now and your appointment, as that will raise your level of excitement, as well as raise your level of motivation.
I'm excited for you!
Blessings,
Mary
