Funny story for Sunday-Yesterday I was teaching Moon a new trick (put two front feet up on a soccer ball) and he was doing very well and getting it just right. I clicker train and we are both pretty focused, but he did the behavior just perfectly and I clicked and said "Oh.....you are just the cutest thing....." and you could have melted butter with the look he gave me. Apparently feet on soccer balls is serious, big boy business and gushing is not allowed with such a manly working dog.....
Edited to add; I stuck a picture of Cinch, Moonies 1/2 brother who is a few months older. Big brother cinch taught Moon the finer points of herding a few weeks ago.

Sage has thrown some of the most gorgeous dogs on the planet-and what's odd is he is a ranch dog and really does work the cattle, etc....he just happens to be beautiful too. Michele and Tracy have been breeding Sage to some hard core working dogs-and getting dogs that are gorgeous and can work too. (In border collie culture, a dog that doesn't herd won't be bred)
I love Moon doggie stories too! I need to meet the charming young man in person sometime. I admire anyone with the patience and perserverance to train and work animals.
My dogs are such worthless bums- only good for snuggling and making me happy. They couldn't/ wouldn't herd if their lives depended on it. Now, my big guy might decide to try to make a kill and eat dinner but not herd them. I can really see the wolf heritage in my big guy- he is a big hunter stuck in the city..
