New and question about emotional eating
I went to my seminar the end of August 2007 and had my surgery December 2007. My insurance required a 3 month physician supervised diet and I had to lose 30 pounds pre-op per my surgeon. I chose RNY over lapband because my doc recommended it and I was really not comfortable with having the lap band inside me. I figured the way my stomach liked to eat it would try to eat the lap band! lol
I had an awesome experience. I didn't have any complications or negative things happen other than the expected pain/discomfort and gas! I do not regret it for one moment! I am down to the last 40 pounds and I am at a stall so I now have to get militant if I want to get the rest of it off. I am wrapping my mind around that one. I always find I have to wrap my mind around stuff first. It helps me. Maybe that will help you too!
ONEDERLAND!!!! FINALLY!!!! WHOOOO HOOOOO!
I have tossed the idea of RNY around, but the thought of having my insides rearranged scares me to death! Yipes! I have seen some good results with the RNY though. I just can't wait to get started and get it done and see how things go. I am so nervous about the anesthesia though. I have had many surgeries and had a bad experience with the anesthesia with being able to smell and taste it as it went into my veins. It just was not a pleasant experience. Thank you for making me feel better. You have no idea how much this puts my mind at ease :)

I agree with the others, the emotional eating is something that you will have to get your arms around, but since being banded, it is easier for me to identify emotional vs. true hunger. In fact, one of my first big shockeroos was how much of what I ate before was just an emotional response.
Be aware, there probably isn't a weight loss surgery out there you can't eat around ....meaning there is always a way to gain weight if that is what your goal is (and for some people, it may be) Be very diligient of the pitfalls of your own surgery (slider foods are the bane of the band) and remember, it's a tool, it won't do the work for you....BUT, at least for me, it made the work doable.
I think this is what I am searching for. Something that makes it a bit more doable. I was telling my husband last night and he remembers how I stopped the "bad foods" when I was going to the gym. I didn't have any type of refined sugars. I only ate bread once every 2 weeks and that was a lady whom I used to work with when she would make homemade pimento cheese and I would have one of those and then go home and spend an hour on the treadmill. My biggest mistake was just letting my guard down and thinking I could "afford" certain things after losing a certain amount of weight.
I know one thing though after spending this much money and going through all of this, it wil make me think about what I am doing. I'm going to start practicing now and hopefully when I do get the band, I will be much more prepared and not thrust into total shock after surgery.
I really appreciate all of your responses and look forward to going on this journey and sharing all of it with you. You have been such a great help.
