Hi there everyone.
I am new here.  I just got a referral to Dr. Gorospe from my PCP for surgery but just found out for sure today from the insurance company that they will not cover ANYTHING, AT ALL, everything is excluded.  So my question is....

Should I waste the consult money for Dr. G knowing he is pretty expensive?
What are my other options?
Any advice on what I should do, where I should go?  HELP?!?!?
Thanks, in advance for your advice.

I would attend a seminar before going to a consult. I also would not pay out of pocket for a surgeon that is more expensive when there are other great doctors with cheaper costs. In this case being more expensive does not mean the best doctor. Normally, I wouldn't say that, but after being on here and knowing about so many great doctors, I would suggest you take your time and find out about the different ones in your area. Before you go any further though, I would say...Go to a Seminar, that way you can choose which procedure will also work for you. If you need to, go to a couple seminars from different Doctors, to help you decide. I chose Weight Wise because I had heard how wonderful the doctors were. After being on this board and talking with other patients of theirs, I feel I made the right choice. Others would think Doc Gorospe would make a better doctor. It just all comes down to who YOU feel meets your needs....Obviously money is an issue, so if the doc's are all about even...then go with which one meets your budget.
Good luck in your search.

I agree with Okiechic!  You shouldn't pay the $200.00 fee with Dr. G until you are sure he's your man.  You can meet him at the seminar and ask him any questions you might have.  You can also meet him at the support group meeting.  He is a wonderful Dr.  And a very nice man he will talk to you as long as you want to ask questions.  But once you pay that $200.00 for his office visit, its non refundable.  Thats a waste if you aren't sure you are going to use him.  If you are self pay you have to know going into it that I have read on here that his fee is double that of weight wise.  I have heard wonderful things about the weight wise clinic and the dr.s there.  I would attend both seminars and supt group meetings and see where you feel the most comfortable and where your checkbook will be the happiest.  Its not all about money I'm not saying that but For me it was an issue and I am fortunate to have insurance that will pay for all of mine.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey and I hope you stay on the Okie board because you won't get any better support anywhere!
Hugs to you!
Kim

I would do your research and go to the place that you feel most comfortable with. I wouldn't waste the consult money. I would attend all of the seminar options available and make your choice after that. Best of luck. Rita

I AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSE ABOUT ATTENDING A SEMINAR FIRST TO DECIDE WHICH DR TO USE. I AM A LITTLE PREJUDICE AND THINK DR BROUSSARD IS THE BEST!! BUT YOU HAVE A BIG DECISION TO MAKE SO WEIGH ALL YOUR OPTIONS AND GOOD LUCK!

You should check out Surgical Associates in Tulsa. that is who I am using and there rates are pretty reasonable. They also offer financing options for self pay patients. The Drs there are Dr. Cole, Dr. Katsis and Dr. Varnell. I am using Dr. Katsis. They have a seminar the first monday of every month. There website is http://www.surgassoc.com/intro_surgery.html .
Hope this helps.
