My intake appointment is Monday with Dr. Gorospe. But, after coming across the Weight Wise web site, I beginning to wonder if I am making the right decision. Dr. Gorospe wants $25,000-$30,000 for the VSG. And Dr. Walton with Weight Wise in Edmond wants $12,500. I need help, I am super frustrated and confused on what to do!!!

Hi, My suggestion would be to attend one of the seminars at weight wise. This may help you to better make your decision. Of coarse if I had the choice to pay half the price I would probably choose that one. I am partial to weight wise, and Dr.Walton because that is where I work as well as where I had my surgery. Everyones surgeon and the kind of surgery they have should be their own personal decision. I would encourage you to do your research on your options before you make a decision. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a shout. Best of luck to you, Rita

Are you self pay?
To me I would see who has the most experience compared to price.
I would rather have surgery by a well qualified person who took classes for a period of time versus one that took a week end seminar on how to do it.
Ask what is included with the price? As with WW..Know your facts about both before you switch cause of a price.
I will give you this is an example I went and saw 3 plastic surgeons I was given 3 different prices. The surgeon I will have to do my legs gave me a little bit higher price but his fees included the hospital my stay there the antheslogist, and the 90 day grace time after surgery plus he had a nest fee if I had to stay longer if I didnt then I would be refunded that. He was also to me more qualified in what I needed...
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

I know if you are self-pay, price is a concern. If insurance will cover the costs, go with who you feel comfortable and is more convenient for follow-up visits. I can tell you that the price Dr G is giving you includes the hosp charges.

Example, for me. Hosp was about 26,000., Dr Kirk assist surgeon fee was 2500.00 and Dr Gorospe's fee was 7500.00. Now I have UHC and they covered me at 100% because my out of pocket had already been met for the year. Believe it or not, Dr G contracted payment by ins was only 2500.00, Dr Kirk got about 900.00 and the hospital only got paid 2000.00. I stayed day and a half. I had a great experience at Bailey Hospital.

If your self-pay, try to see which facility will work with you at accepting a lower payment, this probably will require you to pay up front for the discount.

The price at Weight Wise covers everything. There are NO hidden or extra fees.  I live in the Dallas Texas area and was self pay.  Go to a seminar there before you make a choice.  Unless insurance is paying, $25,000 is extremely high for anybody.  Doctors in Dallas don't even charge near that much.

That is a huge price difference. I'd find out what the prices include, hospital fees, anestesiolgists (sp?), etc then meet with both offices to see who you are most comfortable with. Good luck in your journey!

My sister had a gastric bypass with Dr. Gorospe, and I had mine with Dr. Walton.  Both of us are doing well and had no complications.  They have a slightly different approach.  Dr. Gorospe leaves you on liquids and soft foods longer than Dr. Walton does.  Dr. Walton prefers that patients get their protein through food rather than supplements.  Dr. Gorospe reinforces the place where they restitch everything together in the RNY; Dr. Walton's experience has been that doing so is unnecessary.  Her insurance covered her surgery; mine didn't.  I echo Cricket's suggestion; check out the seminar before you decide.

I AGREE THAT YOU SHOULD ATTEND A SEMINAR AT WEIGHT WISE AND THEN WEIGH YOUR OPTIONS. I LOVE THE DR'S AND STAFF AT WEIGHT WISE.
SEVERAL YEARS AGO I CHECKED IN TO DR GOROSPE AND ATTENDED HIS SEMINAR. AT THAT TIME MY INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER IT AND I COULDN'T COME UP WITH THE MONEY ON MY OWN. NOW SEVERAL YEARS LATER MY INSURANCE STILL WOULDN'T COVER IT BUT MY MOM HELPED ME WITH A LOAN. I WOULD RECCOMMEND WEIGHT WISE TO ANYONE THAT ASKS. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND I HAVE HEARD A LOT OF GOOD THINGS ABOUT DR GOROSPE. YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE DECISION TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU! GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

I was a self-pay and also used Weight Wise and Dr. Walton.  My experience has been wonderful from the get go.  My insurance totally excluded any weight loss surgeries.  My total that I was quoted included the facility, the surgeon, the assistant to the surgeon, the anesthesiologist.  I know for the normal folks out here $25,000-$30,000 as opposed to $12,500 is a huge difference.  I also recomment you attend a seminar at Weight Wise.  They will give you all the information and explain thoroughly.  They will answer all  your questions and then you should be able to make a decision.  Good luck.  It was the best decision I've ever made...

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

The only thing I know about weight wise is the wonderful things I have heard.  I have been to 2 different seminars with 2 different dr.s  They both had different methods of before and after care.  I would not go to that first apt with Dr. Gorospe if you were thinking about changing.  I lost my $200.00 for a few mins with him.  I had to change because of insurance.  I really liked him and I felt like he was a wonderful Dr.  I will continue to go to his suport group meetings because they are closer then OKC.  The only reason I had to change was because of insurance.  That being said...Go to the weight wise seminar if you can save that kind of money.  See what you think after the seminar and go with what you feel is best for YOU!  Money or No Money involved you are the one that has to be comfortable.  Best of luck with whatever decision you make!  It'll be the right one!
