What's for breakfast?
I have had the cantelope for breakfast quite often this past summer. I totally enjoyed it. You would also need to have your protein with it....first. I do turkey bacon, egg made as an omlet with cheese, some ham and veggies if I have them. I also do some cheese with delli meat. I don't do very many protein bars at all. I sometimes will have some of the mandarin oranges with my cottage cheese also. yummers. Eat up on the cantelope. You might go slow at first but it didn't bother this RNY'er at all.
I'd say away from the cereals. I think malto-meal would be a "slider" food and what our NUT would call a waste of calories for no protein. We can never have rice, pasta or breads for the same reason. you'll find as time goes on you will be more particular about what you want to fill your tummy up with. I loved having watermelon this summer too. You sure couldn't ever call it a meal and it pretty much slides on through too but is tasty. Some say it has too much sugar in it for them but it didn't for me...
I'm not a big breakfast eater. I'll have plain malt o meal with cinnamon, splenda, a little FF milk, and a spritz of spray butter. I can only eat maybe 1/4 of a cup. Then I'll drink a protein shake once I get to work. The apples and peanut butter sound good. I may try that tomorrow. My tummy also likes watermelon a lot. I only eat a chunk or two at a time though. I've just never been a big breakfast eater. I do like bacon though. I may have to get some pre-cooked stuff and keep it handy for a protein fix :)
Pure Protein bars are a good choice- 20 grams of protein and not too many carbs. But, if sugar alcohols bother you go slow until you know if you can tolerate this bar.
I also eat string cheese, precooked bacon, had some ham this morning. I don't do eggs simply because they don't do well in my tummy any more.
Stay away from the Malto Meal. Way too many carbs. If you want a hot cereal go to Akins and find the Flax Z Snax cereal. They even have a chocolate flavor. I bought some but haven't tried it yet. EDITED to add Oops! Just realized you are in Tulsa. Don't know what health food store might carry the flax cereal.
