This is a question for VSG'rs who are quite a ways out, or just some body who knows.  I am 9 weeks out and need to know if there will be at any point when I can take Motrin, I am having some back muscle spasms, and I have always taken Motrin for this.  Will there ever be a time down the road when I will be able to take it?    Lisa

Lisa, Sometimes Dr. Walton will let his patients take it if you are also taking your prilosec OTC or the one he gave you at discharge. I can't remember the name of it right now. I definately would check with him and see what he says.

Protonix was the other drug I was looking for but couldn't think of it.

Thanks Rita, I have an appointment on Nov. 6th, so I will ask him, or if it gets to hurting to bad I will call him.  Thanks again.  Lisa    P.S. I am also very proud of the Cowboys they did a great job, and it was a great game.

Lisa, since you have an appoitment coming up, I say definitely ask Dr. Walton; however, just based on my experience, I have been able to take Advil (which is Ibuprofen like Motrin). I asked Dr. Broussard before taking it and he said it was fine. I told me to try Tylenol first and if that did not work, then Advil was ok. Unfortunately, Tylenol does absolutely nothing form. The good thing is I have only needed Advil occasionally.

Lisa, with Dr. Walton's permission I was back on my NSAID for my rheumatoid arthritis 2 weeks post-op.  However, we had discussed my options and made a plan.  I am still on my Protonix.  Not sure if I will ever be able to get off of it.  Talk to Dr. Walton.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

DR B TOLD ME I COULD CONTINUE TAKING MY IBUPROFEN WHICH WAS PRESCRIPTION STRENGTH 800 MG. THOSE ARE BIG OL HONKING PILLS SO I STARTED TAKING REGULAR IBUPROFEN EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN I GET A HEADACHE. BUT SUPRISING ENOUGH I DON'T GET THE BAD TENSION HEADACHES I HAD BEFORE SURGERY SO I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THEM TOO OFTEN.
