Does anyone know of a protein drink that doesn't taste completely horrible?? I tried a protein smoothie that I had picked up at Crest foods, before I left town after my surgery and it was AWFUL  .  I am open to suggestions.

You are going to have to figure out what part of it you don't like-the sugar free part, the whey part or the soy part if you use a soy base.....and find one that doesn't have that.

The premix drinks usually taste better than the powdered ones you mix yourself, and they cost a bunch more too.

For soups, I just blop in some unflavored soy, because I actually like the taste of soy.  I also like spuritena (soy based, haven't tried the whey) but it's got lower protein counts than a lot of the ones on the market.

New directions powders are easily mixed with water, and I like Chike too....the whey taste is more apparent in the chike, but yes, I like the taste of whey too.

One other thought-this won't do long term, but if need to do something and are gagging-just drink a glass of milk (I use 2 percent) with a shot of sugar free syrup for flavor.  It beats the heck out of NO protein at all.

Deb, Milk is  not an option at this point on our program. Right now the only choices that you have for the next two weeks is what is on the sheet given to you by your nutritionist before you left the hospital. Protein is actually something that you don't have to have these next two weeks unless you just fell like you need it. Your focus on the next two weeks is not on your nutrition but on your hydration. Best of luck, Rita

The soy , I think is what is gagging me. It is flat nasty. So, unless I feel like I need protein these 2 weeks, I am not going to take it.  Thanks for the info.

Nectar brand from netrition.com is so awesome with zero gritty-taste!  I get the "caribbean cooler" is it's like drinking something wonderful and tropical.  the only one they have that i don't like is "fuzzy navel"...most people like it, but just not for me i suppose....so hey give it a whirl..I tried around 20 different ones before this one was found and hey it's ZERO CARBS AND TASTY!!!!

During the first two weeks post-op I used the EAS lite ready to drink in chocolate.  It went down fairly well.  I can't say that I liked it but it beat the heck out of being weak and tired and light headed (that is what hungry felt like the first month or so.)

Good luck!
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Haven't really felt weak. So I think for now I am fine without it. I got back out this morning and did my usual 3 mile walk. I am tired but it felt so good. I even feel smaller.

I used the Atkins Advantage Chocolate several times during the first two weeks of liquids,  only when I felt very weak.  It really helped me.  I could only drink about one fourth of a cup at a time, and it is very thick so it took me a long time to get it down.    Lisa
