Take your vitamins! This is why...
Hi, OK Friends.
I read a post on the Main Board that made me gasp. If you are not religiously taking your vitamins and supplements, I want you to read this post, no matter what surgery you've had, no matter if you're pre-op or post-op, and I'M NOT KIDDING!

Thanks for the post Mary. That is scary. One of the guys on the men's forum posted the benefits of different vitamins. Interesting.

Hi, Michael.
There's information overload out there, about vitamins, for sure. That's why it's important to follow the doctor's instructions for vitamins and supplements and get regular bloodwork done.
Blessings,
Mary

Thanks for the post Mary. I know that at the seminars at WeightWise it is stressed that unless you can afford to purchase and take the vitamins etc that are recommended and go to the follow-up care after surgery you don't need to have this surgery at all. It is an ongoing expense but part of the entire process. It is all so necessary when we make adjustments to our bodies. The RNY'rs especially have the malabsorption going on and will NEVER be able to NOT take the supplements that are advised. I personally have my bloodwork done every 3 months. I still see my endocrinologist every 3 months (even though my A1C as been at 5.5 the last 8 months). The last time I went she added the vitamin D and doubled my iron. That was also recommended by my surgeon. They want to stay on top of it and keep my blood levels where they need to be. My endocrinologist is very WLS friendly especially after seeing my results with the diabetes issue being resolved.
People make a concious decision to either take or not take the advised supplements. It's kind of like a diabetic deciding not to check blood or take their medications....can't happen and keep your levels good. We need to remember that our surgeons and facilities know what it takes to make this successful. They have merely given us a tool. The rest as far as food choices, exercise, drinking water and.....taking the vitamins and other supplements are our job!!! We have to continue to do the work for it to work and us to remain healthy!!!
