I'm sorry you are going through this, it isn't good for your healing process to be so stressed!
But, check with your Human Resource department, I know a girl who had FMLA for 2 different diagnosis, meaning she could miss 12 weeks a year with each diagnosis.  I don't think that they can lump all of your medical issues into one FMLA.  So please check it out.  You should have a separate FMLA for this surgery.
Hang in there, we'll be praying for you!

Q: How is the 12-month period calculated under FMLA?

Employers may select one of four options for determining the 12-month period:

  • the calendar year;
  • any fixed 12-month "leave year" such as a fiscal year, a year required by state law, or a year starting on the employee’s "anniversary" date;
  • the 12-month period measured forward from the date any employee’s first FMLA leave begins; or
  • a "rolling" 12-month period measured backward from the date an employee uses FMLA leave.

: Which employees are eligible to take FMLA leave?

Employees are eligible to take FMLA leave if they have worked for their employer for at least 12 months, and have worked for at least 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months, and work at a location where at least 50 employees are employed by the employer within 75 miles.

Q: Do the 12 months of service with the employer have to be continuous or consecutive?

No. The 12 months do not have to be continuous or consecutive; all time worked for the employer is counted.

Q: Do the 1,250 hours include paid leave time or other absences from work?

No. The 1,250 hours include only those hours actually worked for the employer. Paid leave and unpaid leave, including FMLA leave, are not included.

Here are the pertinent sections of the Act.  Call your HR department and find out how they calculate the leave policy.

I hope everything looks a little brighter for you today. I know there have been times we have been overwhelmed with the loss of income, but it has all worked out, and it will for you too. I am saying prayers for you.

I'm so sorry, for all you're going through. Maybe it's too soon for you to hear this, but it's times like these that, even though they're unbelievably hard to go through, end up ushering in a wonderful time. Often, we look back and say, "It turned out so great; I wouldn't change a thing."
Praying for You,
Mary

All these posts are so right. I can only answer with this and I have learned this well....Crying only makes your eyes and face look like crap! It is also like drinking for a cure....It does no good except to relieve some stress for a few min......Hitting the pillows doesn't do anything....hitting walls...nope...Nothing works. It, at the time, seems like the only thing to do, so we do it. I have even thrown myself on the floor crying like a freaking 2 yr old....I still got nowhere.....Soooo what am I trying to say....Well since we have ruled all the above helping you....listen to the advice here. Try to look at the positives....try not to become paralized by the fear of what will happen and move to find out what CAN be done.
I will pray for you and your family.....Christmas is going to suck for alot of families this year. Families have to understand it though as they are all pretty much in the same boat. We decided last year to just have a family get together and no gifts. It will be the same this year. I would rather my children have Christmas for their own families than to waste the money on getting me something. Later when we when the lottery, I will expect lavi****ems for my important days....right now I am content to dream about what I'd like to have....I'm making a wish list!  Don't worry about Christmas.....God's got that covered!! Get your butt out bed....that is on the list of things that don't work! Trust me I DO understand!! My heart aches for you, but get out of bed anyway!  Oh and dying doesn't work either....take that off your list. That is never an option!! Got it?? In the meantime.....I'm praying for you!! THAT DOES WORK!

Is that even legal?? Can they really do that when you have a medical reason?? I don't get it.

A  phrase is coming to mind here. "When God closes a door, he opens a window." Sometimes we can't see why things are happening at the time, but  almost always something better comes along. There are community assistance places in many cities that can help with deposits and things. If I knew where the city was, I might be able to help.
