I AM REALLY DOWN FOR SOME REASON

Hi:  I have been really depressed  these last 2  days and  am wondering why  I had this surgery?? I am 6 wks post op.  Does
this happen  for others  and if so  does it go  away??
I am going back on Monday  to work and hope that helps  me  get
past this feeling and or  emotion.  I  feel  that  I cannot eat  stuff and
that is true. So I eat the same ole stuff everyday.  Sorry  for
being negative  -- but this is where I am at. Glenda

The dietary limitations ease over time, and my experience has been that I'm starting to like the stuff I should have been eating all along.  It will all work out!

I  see  that  one  day  I  could  eat  a little more  and/or  a  different   variety.  That is  Hopeful.
Thanks for the insight.  I have  to keep on keeping  on  and   not  worry  about  food  as
entertainment  but  as  a  new  way  of  LIFE.

I had buyers remorse at first.  The worst went away pretty quickly but then I would have moments from time to time where I mourned not being able to eat like I used to.  Now at three months I don't have that anymore.  Hang in there.   You adjust and it really does get better.

Glenda, it's just exactly like Amy said...this will pass....

Remember before the sugery, you would do anything to get it done?  Well you got what you wanted....and now it's time to settle the score against all of those doritos, jelly donuts, sugary sodas, and other bad things that got you where you wanted the surgery in the first place.

You are missing those old things and are walking through flames trying to avoid wanting them.  This stuff fades....you will be able to eat great tasting things again, but with limitations that will keep you healthy.  there's no going back at this point, so go to plan "b" and learn to love the new you....once you accept the changes and know that what has been done has been finalized, then reality will put all of these changes back into perspective.  We've all had some buyers remorse...  I had it for about 5 minutes when I was still in the hospital...and I knew I was wrong to think that way since I had abused myself for the sake of eating and becoming dependant on junk-food.  Now I'm free of those burdens...you will be too....have the faith to know you're going to be so much stronger in another 1 and 1/2 months...  I have faith in you....just like a whole bunch of other strangers had faith in me....

GLENDA, YOU ARE BASICALLY IN MOURNING FOR YOUR OLD STANDBY...FOOD! IF YOU WERE ANYTHING LIKE ME FOOD WAS LIKE YOUR BEST FRIEND. WHEN I WAS HAPPY I ATE. WHEN I WAS SAD, I ATE. WHEN I WAS BORED I ATE. I NOW REALIZE THAT I ATE ALL THE FREAKING TIME!! AND I ATE A LARGE QUANTITY OF FOOD AND NONE OF IT WAS GOOD FOR ME.  SO WHAT I AM SAYING IS THIS PERIOD WILL PASS AND YOU WILL BE SO HAPPY WITH YOURSELF WHEN YOU SEE THE CHANGES AND YOU WILL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. SO GO AHEAD AND MOURN BUT THEN GET ON WITH IT!!

I'm sorry you are feeling down!  I don't have the experience myself but I have read LOTS of posts where people say the exact same thing you have said.  But from the advice you have gotten from everyone else it sounds so normal.  I mean think about it...we didn't start out eating healthy food or have any moderations about our eating or we wouldn't be posting here????  You have a new life with a new birthday and it started 6 weeks ago, you are just a baby!  You'll get used to it and love it!  You'll be dancing in no time!  And Eating for a healthy lifestyle!  Check out eggface on OH.  and Thomas posts recipes also!  Once you settle in to your new lifestyle you'll be happy.  Probably going to the dr. and seeing the scales will really make you happy!
We are all here for you!  Hugs Kim
PS.  Will you keep this post and show me in a couple of months when Im on the loser's bench with you.  I think its good advice! LOL!

This will pass.
I was stuck on eatting the same stuff for months...turkey taco meat and fat free refried beans with salsa...
by the way you are not being negative just down...
going back to work will help and getting back into a routine that you had before surgery will chase away the blahs....
being healthy has its rewards....take the challenge and just do it

Thanks  so much for the good  encouraging  words. I really needed  to hear  that  this is okay  to feel this way and most  do.
I  will  look for  new recipes and  see what  I  like and my new tummy
likes.   Already  today  feels  like  a new  day  again.  Good  to hear from you  WLS  buddies.  It really helped me to know  that  others  are out there  for  me and  actually know  what  I am going  thru.
One day at a time is  my  motto for this.  Glenda

You are very normal to feel that way.  I have had several times lately (3 months out) when I have regretted doing the surgery, but I know in six months when my body finally heals and I start adjusting to life after surgery, I will feel better.  I think everyone has buyer's remorse at one time or another.  I agree that going back to work and getting back into a more normal routine will help you out a lot.

Good luck.

Kim
