Has anyone dealt with Tricare? And if so was it easy to get approval or was it difficult. I was just wondering. I wanted to look into getting a Bypass and wanted to know what the insurance process was first. Thanks in advance.

Call them and ask. If they tell you it is not covered, ask them what their policy is for medical necessity.

I've dealt with Tricare~  We have Tricare prime (Active duty).  I could pretty much tell you what it was like for me 4 1/2 years ago, but it could very have changed since then.  I had to go to my PCM for a referral.  I had to attend Nutrition class (minimum of 2 classes), 2 support group meetings, and consult with the surgeon, then it was submitted for approval.  You had to have a BMI of 40.0, be 100 lbs overweight, and/or have co-morbidities (weight-related illnesses/impairments).  I didn't have to go through a sleep study or psych eval, but that could have changed.  Feel free to message me privately if you need anything else on this... take care!

Thank you so much to both of you. I think I will just dive in and take the first step and ask my PCM to give me a referral and see what happens after that....wish me luck. Thank you ....hope to chat with you soon.
