I'M FEELING OLD TODAY!!
I can sympathize, my soon to be 16 daughter is getting her permit next week, she is my baby! My 18 year old son has been living at home since graduating in May, he was working locally as a welder but go laid off last week along with 5 others. So now he is looking at a job in Missouri and may be moving away!! I want to cry, I am not ready for him to go away. I know, cut the apron strings, right? I really have raised my kids to be independent, I want them to be successful and able to support themselves, guess I am not looking forward to the empty nest. So, clingy moms unite! LOL

It is hard, isn't it? I've gone through it twice now, have watched both of them move out. What the heck has happened? It was just last week that I was in cloud 9 getting my learner's permit, getting my driver's license, graduating, moving out. I sure didn't understand my mom's tears. Do now! It'll get better. Good luck with the driving lessons. I enjoyed teaching my kids to drive. I calmly talked to them about what to look out for as they were driving and calmly instructed them along the way. I wanted them to get as much practice as possible while I was still in the car so they would have a lot of time in when they got out on their own.
Well you could always do what I did -- just as mine were old enough to be independent (3 bios) I adopted another, and then 5 years later did it again! Now I have 3 married sons, 2 ten year old daughters, and a 2 year old grandson! It is often crazy around here but it is what keeps me young - especially now that I have more energy to enjoy them!
You have to admit, though, that it's awfully satisfying to see your son behave responsibly and to become the kind of man you always wanted him to be. Hopefully one day (when the time is right) he'll give you grandchildren, and you can enjoy being a grandparent as much or more than you enjoyed being a parent. I'm a grandparent, and it rules. Keep your chin up!
