First "stuck" food...

Well, it happened, my first "stuck" food since having RNY! I knew it would happen sooner or later. I've had close calls, but this was IT.

I tried one of those Smart Ones meals. I wanted to try it before I have to go to work this afternoon. I just feel like I haven't eaten ANYthing. As soon as I started eating it, I felt it start. ONE bite! I failed to chew it beyond recognition and it got stuck in my chest... just sitting there, feeling like it's getting bigger and bigger. I'd stopped eating after swallowing that. I tried walking around, breathing deep, flailing my arms around.. nothing helped this time. So stupid of me to even THINK that was enough chewing!

So yup, bathroom, here I come! After sitting on the side of the tub for about 20 minutes, it's now gone. A trick I learned in college is that VERY cold water kind of "helps me along" when I need to get something out of me... if you catch my drift.

Dan, now I know what you were talking about! GAH! I think I'll have Cream of Wheat for every meal now! Man, that was unpleasant.. just hope it's over!

Think I'll have broth tonight at work...

What was it in the meal that got ya?  You should not be eatting any meats or veggies yet other than green beans.  Arent you still in the mushies phase?

Jean at your stage in the game you should be eatting mushies and no rice! I have not found a lean cruisne or smart one meal that did not contain either rice potatoes or pasta...urrgh!
next time the food feels stuck drink some warm tea or water that helps dislodge it and chances are ya gonna hurllll

Well, I'd planned on eating around the noodles. The meat in those things is always fairly small, so I didn't think it would be a problem. What got stuck was one of the "crunchy" parts that the microwave nuked on the side.. usually my fav part. LOL

I'll definitely take it slower next time. I know it was just because I didn't chew it properly.

Jean,
for me there just is not enough nutrition i can get from a tv dinner... what i do sounds crazy but it helped me alot...i wold buy progresso soup and divided into freezer bags then just nuke them..i used fat free refried beans with low fat cheese and salsa...now that i am almost a year out...i cooke huge pots of chili and stews then freeze then in individual servings...a pound of cooked taco turkey meat i do the same thing with. I did try a south beach diet pizza and took one bite of toppings off of it and threw it outside for the neighbor cats to eat..even they didnt eat it. I have searched all tv entrees and found only one that was a barartric friendly one...it was by south beach and now i can not find it...

Yes yes yes.  (bad language about to come out-stop if you are easily offended)...I am pissed OFF that all TV dinners have rice and noodles.  Now I have the tummy to be satisfied with one-and I can't eat them.

I do eat the guts of of lean pockets and Amy's burritos, and I just found some omlettes that don't have any rice or noodles but haven't tried them yet.  But very few of the low cal TV dinners have enough meat even form me-haven't tried the others.  Even those stupid toddler meals that aren't frozen come with rice or potatoes-aaaaagh.

But-heating a bariatiric size tv dinner could be dicey too-easily dried. This is a problem I wish the great minds of the world would work on.

That was a tad early to try one of those dinners..they have a lot of hidden stuff that doesn't sit too well on our tummies. I  still have to watch the fats at 1 year out, and I've learned the hard way. No matter how moist the chicken, I will never have the leftovers again because it's guaranteed to make me sick...and carrots were the devil for me for a long time. I ate lots of FF refried beans in the mushy stage. Go slow as you go on the healthy foods for life stage. Take notes of what works and what doesn't....don't be in a hurry to try everything at once. Listen to your body.  I ate canned chicken and ground beef the 97-98% fat free stuff, and string cheese and eggs. I ate a lot of broccoli and cauliflower, too.

Looks like broccoli would get stuck a lot, too. I remember someone saying carrots were ok as long as they were cooked, these were and they were great! Leave it to the cafeteria at work to make them almost mush! LOL

I learned my lesson, that's for sure. I thought the tomato sauce and meat in the lasagna would be ok since it's not really solid. I had some chili from Whole Foods last night and I was ok, taking the rest to work today. It's amazing what Prevacid can do!

Sorry you have experineced the dreaded STUCK!!!  I remember my first thing to get stuck was dry chicken.  And what I remember even more was how HARD it was to get back up...which you now know completely!!

Good to see you are on your way..sorry for your misery!
