How many of you regularly exercise and how important was it in your weight loss. I have never been an exerciser and I worry that I still won't be after surgery. Even when I was thin I never exercised. Please tell me what you do and how often.

Hi, Emily.
I am unable to do much, in the way of exercise...YET, but I do try to do 30 minutes of movement in water 3-5 times per week (I have a friend who lets me use their indoor pool, when they're not at home), 3 100-revolution sets on an arm bike (tabletop model can be ordered from WalMart, on-line, for about $40 or so), and lifting 3 lb. handweights (exercise physiologist says "no" to that, currently). I would give almost anything if I could walk around our block. I feel confident I will get there, one day. Some days I set a timer, and every 15 minutes I make a "lap" inside the house. Everything adds up. :)
Blessings on you, as you seek to get in more movement into your day.

My doctor told me not to bother having the surgery if I didn't intend to exercise.  I think it's critical for weight loss and overall good health.  And I hate it too but it must be done!

Right now, I'm working on the cardio on the treadmill and I walk 45 minutes or 2-1/2 miles 3 times a week.  I should really do it 4 or 5 times a week but I'm working on it!

Best of luck to you!

I just had to take a hiatus from exercise for a while because I had stitches and a cast on my arm and they didn't want me sweating it up.  But, I got the cast of yesterday and started back to exercising last night.  It really does make a big difference on how quickly you lose.  I try to exercise every other day, if not five times a week.  I got a recumbent bike at Academy for $100 and ride it in front of the TV, or do the treadmill, or, especially at this time of the year, a morning walk is wonderful.  At first it doesn't matter how fast you go, just that you go!  Take a walk around the mall, park farther from the door when you go to wal-mart, anything just to get more activity in your life.  Believe it or not, I'm not sure I will ever enjoy exercise, but I do miss it now when I can't do it  -- go figure !

My surgeon's program says 60 minutes daily to maintain, 90 minutes daily to *lose*. It's tough, but it helps your body in so many ways more than just weight loss. You CAN do it!
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Treadmill 4 days per week, in the morning, for 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how much time I have.

Outdoor walking 7 days per week in the evening, for about 30 minutes.

Strenght and restistance exercise at Tan & Tone America about 3 times per week.

I walk 3 miles a day, 6 days a week, it takes me about 55-60 min.  When I first started it was 3 months before surgery and all I could do was half a mile and I didn't want to but I had to make myself do it,  I gradually worked my way up to 3 miles.  I love walking and I am more inspired to do it now that I have had surgery, because I know that it will help alot in the weight loss process. I haven't walked in 2 days because it has been raining here, and I really miss it.  Looks like I need to invest in a treadmill.    Lisa

Find something you enjoy doing, and do it!  I discovered that I enjoy getting out on my bicycle.  I try to do it about five days a week, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.  The more consistently I exercise, the more weight I seem to lose, and my appetite is smaller.  I hope you find something you love.

i work out everyday for at least 45 minutes. my husband is very strict with me and doesn't let me slack one bit and i thank him for that. but not during my workouts because then is when i cuss him out. i think exercise has been very important in my weight loss journey and i welcome it now. i used to hate it and had to drag myself to the gym a couple of times a week but now that i can see results i love to go everyday. and the scales at my gym are the only ones that i use. i try to weigh only on wednesdays and sundays but i often jump the gun and weight 3-4 times a week.hope this helps. i think when you start to see the results like i did it will get easier for you!
