Holy HIVES Batman and a question

I guess the coffee OD/Celebrex really did a number on my system-we are talking hives on my ears, throat and face, swollen eyes and throat-a real scene from a funny movie.

I was going to have some fluid removed and I realized that the swelling was all over, not just the band part, so I am taking benedryl and will wait for the swelling to subside and then assess.

We are told (and don't I preach it) that too tight is never good but this is a "new thing" because the tightness is coming from all over swelling.  So, I'm sipping liquids until the swelling on my face goes away, THEN if I have trouble, I'll have some fluid removed.  As long as I don't puke, she will just do a little dab unfill and not a big mam-moo unfill-but I'm hoping for no need at all.

Part of the key to good band success is knowing when it's the band, when it's something else, and when it doesn't matter, you just need to unfill.

For some of you other surgery types, can you tell the difference between a procedure related puke (or PB) and one that is mechanical (due to stoma stize?)  STOP READING IF YOU DON"T LIKE GROSS-for me, if it's the band, it never hits my lower stomach and comes back up the way it went down, and fairly easily.  An illness related vomit is just like any other, full of acid, bile, etc, so yes, despite what people who are not banded say, YES, I can tell the difference.  Can you?

This thing I have now is really strange-it's getting stuck in my trhroat, once it hits the band it goes through no problem, but an hour after a benedryl I could probably eat a buffalo.  It is getting better not worse, so I feel ok watching it till tomorrow and avoiding the ER (I do know allergic reactions can be serious).

Wow! ((Hugs)) Hope this resolves itself, soon. Allergic reactions aren't fun at all. That happened to me with Penicillin.

As far as the goes, it's been so different after surgery. White...a lot of white...oily..just..different. I hadn't been sick in over 3 months, but yesterday I reheated the Charleston's...and instant pain. i tried to fight it, but i knew better. Anytime I have instant pain, I know it's coming back up. So, lesson learned. Charleston's is great the first time...just not the second!

I think the band would be hard to learn, but it sounds like you know exactly how to work it!
There's a Benadryl lotion, too...would that help??

Yeppers-I have benedryl gel all over my face, arms and chest-I'm soooooo sexy.

The only way I will do leftovers is in a soup or sauce, then it might work. Otherwise, it's just to risky (I have to on liquids for 24 hours if I puke).  But I do bring them home for the kiddos unless I'm going to be out too much longer and it's hot-the "goodness of my heart" in that case can lead to a really messy kennel clean up.  Moonie is getting ready to dine on Chicken Picata from Charlestons, but he's going to have to earn every bite.

Deb,
Please do not delay going to the ER. Safe is better than sorry. Your swelling may be caused from something you have eatten or  by a chemical in your house. PLEASE go to the ER. If you need a ride email me and I will be happy to come and take you.

Yep-it's the coffee and the celebrex combo-most likely coffee put it over the edge but I think I'm done with celebrex too.  If it gets worse, I'd go-my parents live 2 houses down....but I've had this before with other NSAIDS and it's the gradual build up kind of thing.  A sudden reaction I'd be beating the door down at the ER.

I'm running out of NSAIDS to try though and that is a bit worrisome.

I have not taken nsaids since I had my surgery....(RNY) plus if I was to drink even decaff coffee I am up running around all day...

This is scary!  Please take good care of yourself!

I am not dedicated enough to deal with the band.  I guess you did pick the right procedure.  I would have cried uncle by now.

My tiny tummy will not accept Celebrex.  It is OK with Mobic.  Not sure if that would work for you or not.

Get better fast!  Call if you need anything.

I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

It is a steep learning curve, the biggest part is realizing not everything that goes wrong is band related....LOL.

The benedryl has made the swelling go down and I'm really glad I didn't run in for an unfill that had nothing to do with the real problem.

But, I had trouble some months ago with celebrex and a fairly tight fill.  There is no malabsorption with the band, same as the sleeve, but I think our altered digestive tracts do alter the way medicine reacts.  I'm really hoping to find a topical solution and keep as much clutter out of my digestive tract as possible.

But, I'm a gadget person, and the band is just another gadget for me.
