Gastric Sleeve
It seems to vary from person to person. I didn't have any problems during the first two weeks except being very frusterated at only being able to sip a tiny bit of water so i had to constantly sip all day long to get in my water. However, I did have a little buyers remorse the first week. After day four I physically felt good. The pain was not too bad for me. I slept on my stomach the first night home for the hospital and never had to take any pain meds once I got home.

I had some soreness on my left side, but would not really describe it as pain. Because they remove the part of your stomach that produces the hunger hormone, you really don't feel physical hunger, but it is more head hunger. for some reason the second week of liquids is easier than the first. I lived off of crystal light, broth, sugar free jello, and sugar free popsicles.
The first 2 weeks post-op with the sleeve is all liquids. It is hard but only because of head hunger. You won't probably feel real physical hunger. Now, I did get light headed and really tired which my nutritionist explained meant I needed a protein shake. I felt much better once I had a protein shake. I usually did one a day and broths and such the rest of the day.
Pain wise it was not a big deal. I only took prescription pain meds the rest of the day I came home from surgery and then for a couple of times at night. I was tender but not in pain. The heating pad was my best friend for a few weeks. It really helped with the soreness and swelling.

I love my sleeve! The first 2 weeks are liquids only and that was kinda rough. I found the first week the toughest and the 2nd week was better. It was a small price to pay for protecting my new tummy. I was sore a couple of weeks with most of the discomfort coming on my left side where all the tools are taken in and out of your body and where the tummy is removed. It felt like 2 pieces of muscle that were sewn back together that were pulling against each other. I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back at my desk job the next Monday so how bad could it be?
Oh, and yes, liquids only for 2 weeks until you get mushies such as scrambled egg, cottage cheese and refried beans. Man, did those taste good! Life was fabulous once I could eat mushies - I felt like a "normal" person again!
I can't say that liquids really curb your hunger unless you drink protein. As HappyCat said, when you feel weak and tired in those 2 weeks, you drink some protein and feel like a new person!
I've lost a total of 78.5 (34 pre-op) and am loving my new bod! I feel good and feel confident I will lose down to a normal weight. I wish I had done this a long time ago but they weren't really doing the sleeve then!
I will say that I was emotionally ready for this. It isn't always easy. You still have to make good choices (protein first) and choose to excercise. But the sleeve gives me the control I could never achieve on my own!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I don't really know what to say since I haven't had any nausea but I know how terrible she must feel. They should be giving her good drugs through her IV but she must be in a lot of pain. I can't even imagine dry heaving with 6 holes in your belly!
Please tell her we are thinking of her and praying for her that she gets relief soon!!!
