I know what you mean. I tried getting rid of my afternoon dose of Protonix and couldn't. I can however take a dose of OTC Prilosec in the afternoon. I can't wait until this acid gets better. This is the one thing that got worse after surgery. EVERYTHING else got better or went away. I still think it is agood trade off- skinnier rear end for some reflux that I can control with meds.
I guess I will be one of those folks that takes the stuff for at least 6 months.

I don't know if this is important or not, but I was at CVS the other day and noticed that they had a sign saying that there was now a generic for it. I know the month I took it, it was kind of pricey. Anyway, just FYI...Glad to hear that you know what was making your feel bad.

Amy;
at almost eight months out, I still have to take Protonix - I take the actual prescription because my insurance pays for it and it is cheaper than buying Prilosec. Anyways, I take 1/2 of a pill every day...tried to stop it a couple of times, but I get that same feeling in my upper chest like you described. Glad I am ok with 1/2 the dose...maybe one day I can stop taking it altogether....
